Department: OHMG Urology Status: Full Time Title: Supervisor - Advanced Practice Provider (APP, NP, PA, ARNP, PAC)
Position Summary The Supervisor, Advanced Practice Professionals diagnoses and treats acute, episodic, or chronic illnesses, and may focus on health promotion and disease prevention. The incumbent will also supervise a range of human resources functions related to assigned Advanced Practice Professionals (APPs).
Responsibilities
Serves as an advanced resource for the specialty area or as the lead worker in a clinic setting.
Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and prescribes necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
Operates with the highest degree of independence in patient care services with minimal physician supervision and generally in a highly specialized area.
Uses advanced skills and in-depth clinical knowledge to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for clients across the continuum.
Assists in teaching students, residents, and interns complex techniques and procedures unique to a specialized clinical setting.
Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow‑up studies, therapeutic measures, and admission and discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
Writes and/or dictates progress notes on patient charts indicating patient status and treatment or procedures performed accurately and timely.
Performs emergency lifesaving procedures in cases such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, massive hemorrhage, or other catastrophes.
May perform preliminary daily rounds independently and then with attending physicians; conducts or participates in daily multidisciplinary rounds.
May prescribe medication, order, perform, or interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and X‑rays. May prescribe narcotics for inpatient; credential requirements for outpatient.
Triages patients.
Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment, collaborating to formulate treatment plans.
Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans consistent with patients’ continuing healthcare needs.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care.
Provides compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
Shows awareness of legal issues and patient rights.
Analyzes and resolves patient care issues to foster significant improvement in patient care.
Maintains provision of preventive health services.
Supervises various human resources functions, including coaching plans, performance counseling, recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of APPs.
Ensures compliance with certifications, licenses, and required education for assigned APPs.
Monitors staffing of APPs to ensure patient care needs are met and budgetary boundaries observed.
Serves as a mentor for professional practice.
Leads and participates in departmental and hospital programs, committees, and special projects to achieve desired outcomes.
Shares clinical expertise and collaborates with other healthcare disciplines for continuity and quality of care.
Maintains punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and relevant federal, state, and local standards.
Complies with all Orlando Health policies and procedures and participates in their review and revision.
Demonstrates compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Establishes relationships with professionals of other health‑related groups within the community.
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, team members, patients, and families.
Participates in basic science and clinical research projects.
Qualifications Education/Training MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing, OR graduate of accredited physician assistant program.
Licensure/Certification
ARNP license in the state of Florida (requires national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board).
Current physician assistant licensure in the State of Florida (to be renewed every two years).
Maintains BSL certification.
Experience Three (3) years specific nurse practitioner OR physician assistant experience in the assigned specialty area.
