Clinical Nurse Practitioner position available in the Jail Behavioral Health Unit in the Yaphank Correctional Facility.
Key Elements Of The Role
Complete psychiatric assessments of patients, including mental status examinations, to determine diagnoses, assess service needs, and prescribe psychotropic medication as appropriate.
Provide psychotropic medication management to existing patients.
Provide crisis intervention services as needed, including assessing patients for psychiatric hospitalization due to exacerbated symptoms of acute or chronic mental illness.
Assess patients for placement on suicide watch as well as for removal from suicide watch and/or any alternative housing environments; assess on unit and in BHU office as appropriate.
Participate as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team; participate in the development of the patient’s individualized treatment plan.
Provide consultation/education to other staff as appropriate.
Consult with community organizations and other collaterals concerning patient care.
Perform timely and complete clinical documentation including evaluations, progress notes, etc. utilizing the electronic medical record and related record keeping systems.
Communicate effectively and timely to unit supervisors and relevant others.
Utilize motivational interviewing and engagement skills, as well as other appropriate evidence‑based practices, to promote wellness among patients.
Perform all other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Salary Range $74,124 – $123,192
Minimum Qualifications
Candidate must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, their families, coworkers, public and private agencies, and the general public.
Candidate must also have the ability to participate effectively as a team member.
Candidate must have graduated from a college with a federally‑authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Master’s Degree in Nursing with a specialization in psychiatry.
A minimum of: (1) year of clinical practice as a certified nurse practitioner in psychiatry.
Possession of a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry.
