About Elkhart Hospital Elkhart General Hospital is a not‑for‑profit hospital located in Elkhart, Indiana. Our full‑service, 357‑bed hospital has served the community for more than 100 years with a variety of services including an Emergency Department, radiology, orthopedics, maternity, behavioral health, imaging and lab, genetic counseling, and DaVinci robotic surgery. What You’ll Do As a Pre‑Admitting Registered Nurse, you will report to the Director, apply the nursing process utilizing the Relationship‑Based Care framework, and establish strong patient and family relationships. The Pre‑Admitting RN collaborates with other professional, clinical, and ancillary staff to provide quality care to patients, demonstrates strong teamwork, and exhibits self‑care and self‑knowing to be empathetic and compassionate in every interaction.

Pre‑Admitting RN Job Responsibilities

Manage workload, take breaks, use vacation time, and recognize stress. Demonstrate care for patients and team.

Take accountability, mentor others, communicate clearly, participate in team huddles, and delegate appropriately.

Plan and deliver respectful, competent care. Maintain confidentiality and professional accountability.

Assess, educate, and engage patients and families. Respond promptly and use critical thinking to support health outcomes.

Pursue ongoing education, participate in improvement initiatives, and maintain attendance and certifications.

Evaluate care effectiveness, conduct audits, gather patient feedback, and complete documentation and assigned duties.

What You Bring You bring strong clinical knowledge and skill in assessments, procedures, and interdisciplinary care planning. You use analytical and organizational abilities to adapt care plans based on changing patient needs and data. You build positive relationships with patients, families, and team members through effective communication. You show leadership by providing feedback, mentoring peers, and supporting change. You understand age‑specific care needs and deliver individualized treatment.

Required Qualifications

Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) is required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana.

Candidates hired after January 1, 2014, must have or obtain a BSN within five (5) years of employment as a Registered Nurse, or will have the option to become certified in their area of specialty. The certification must be maintained based on accrediting body standards.
