Position Overview
Reports to the Director/Manager. Responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, and evaluating orientation, continuing education, and in-service programs for staff, ensuring these are competency-based. Recommends improvements in the quality of nursing practice and standards, and serves as a resource to staff.

Additional Responsibilities
Facilitating needs analysis for staff to ensure educational needs are identified and are the focal point for program development and enhancements; ensuring desired outcomes are met.
Planning, designing, and coordinating training, educational programs, and/or instructional materials.
Designing, preparing, evaluating, and updating lesson plans, lectures, tests, materials, programs, and courses to meet regulatory agency requirements and changing needs.
Teaching staff members by conducting training and providing group and individual instruction.
Preparing necessary administrative/support materials (e.g., program schedules, attendance rosters, evaluations, summaries).
Monitoring orientee's progress/performance and providing instruction and counseling as necessary; making appropriate recommendations to the department Manager/Director.
Serving as an educational resource for various departments, committees, Beacon Health System, Physician groups, and referral organizations.
Participating in community activities as requested.
Providing education for patients as appropriate.
Assisting in the development of policies and procedures.
Other Functions
Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.
Organizational Responsibilities
Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
Completes mandatory education, annual competencies, and department-specific education within established timeframes.
Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
Direct patient care providers required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
Complies with established organization and department policies.
Available to work overtime and additional shifts and schedules when required.

Education And Experience The knowledge, skills, and abilities indicated are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana. A master’s degree in nursing or an advanced Practice Nursing degree is preferred. Two years of previous nursing experience are required. Must be CPR certified as an instructor (CPR Instructor certification required; may obtain after hired). Must become a nurse planner through the American Nursing Credentialing Center within one year of being in position.

Working Conditions
Works in a patient care environment requiring frequent changes in job demands.
May be exposed to biohazards.
Operates office equipment and other equipment used to meet patient care needs.
Physical Demands
Requires physical ability and stamina to walk/stand for prolonged periods, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, position/lift patients up to 35 pounds unassisted (over 35 pounds requires assistance); provide CPR, etc., to perform essential functions of the position.
