Base Pay Range $79,040.00/yr - $79,060.80/yr
Job Summary Promotes patients’ continued well‑being through direct psychological services, evaluating program effectiveness and ongoing clinical research. Provides crisis intervention, assessment, and advocacy across a multidisciplinary team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Clinical expertise in psychotherapeutic processes, crisis intervention, and the chronically mentally ill population, including diagnosis and assessment in a hospital setting.
Ability to work with community support systems, health care, human services, courts, and police as part of a comprehensive community mental health team.
Recognition and appropriate response to crisis and risk situations.
Knowledge and adherence to the professional code of ethics and Vermont state mental health code.
Organizational and administrative skills; computer literacy required.
Flexibility in availability for scheduled work.
Knowledge of specialty populations and treatment modalities relevant to individual programs.
Qualifications
Completion of degree requirements for licensing as a Psychologist – Doctorate in Vermont by the beginning of the Fellowship.
If not otherwise licensed as a therapist in VT (e.g., LCMHC), must be on VT roster of unlicensed psychotherapists.
Completion of a supervised, APA‑accredited doctoral internship training program in professional psychology by the beginning of the Fellowship.
At least two years of work experience in mental health or human services.
Overview Fellows split time approximately equally between two programs: Abigail Rockwell Children’s Center (ARCC) and the Adolescent Inpatient Program.
Abigail Rockwell Children’s Center (ARCC) Multi‑track residential treatment center for children ages 6 to 14, employing a biopsychosocial model and multiple therapy modalities:
Individual therapy
Group therapy
Family/sibling therapy
Milieu therapy (ongoing teaching in a safe environment)
Recreation/team building groups
The center emphasizes a family‑oriented approach, offering family outreach therapy, in‑home parent training, crisis planning, and home visits.
Adolescent Inpatient Program Offers crisis stabilization, specialized treatment, and aftercare planning for youth ages 12 to 18. The multidisciplinary team uses a short‑term, strengths‑based, skills‑oriented approach.
Psychiatric assessment and treatment
Individual and family meetings with a Social Worker and Psychiatric Provider
DBT Skills Groups for coping with difficult emotions
Group Psychotherapy
Milieu support from nursing staff to coach and practice coping skills
Ongoing case management coordinating community services
Job Responsibilities Abigail Rockwell Children’s Center (ARCC)
Psychotherapy group facilitation (1–2 groups per day)
Individual therapy (caseload of 3–6 children)
Family meetings
Daily treatment team meetings
Collaboration on program design
Coordination of care with psychiatry, social work, occupational therapy, and external providers
Adolescent Inpatient Program
Group facilitation (2–3 groups per week for patients awaiting placement)
Psychotherapy group coverage as needed
Substance use treatment – individual and group
Individual therapy (caseload of 2–4 children)
Core Competencies Demonstrates advanced clinical independence, high responsibility, and adherence to agency code of ethics and state mental health regulations. Provides patient and family assessments, clinical documentation, risk assessments, and clinical supervision of interns. Contributes to program development, research design, statistical analysis, and write‑up. Acts as an ambassador for the Retreat’s services.
