Licensing and Certification

Georgia Speech‑Language Pathology license and/or teaching certificate.

Valid Georgia driver’s license.

Education

Master’s degree in speech‑language pathology required.

Experience

Professional work experience in speech/language preferred.

Skills

Thorough knowledge of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) due process requirements.

Skill in conducting and interpreting comprehensive speech/language evaluations.

Proficiency in providing speech/language therapy services.

Effective communication with colleagues, parents, and other staff.

Collaboration in planning and delivering speech‑language services to students.

Ability to create and deliver staff development sessions.

Positive and proactive attitude.

Primary Responsibilities

Screen, evaluate, and provide speech‑language therapy for students with identified speech‑language impairments.

Identify students with educationally significant speech/language disorders.

Participate in Response to Intervention (RTI) for students suspected of having a language disorder.

Receive referrals from the Student Support Team following the RTI process.

Complete comprehensive evaluation of all referred students.

Complete all required due process paperwork associated with placement of students into speech‑language therapy services and ongoing maintenance.

Provide appropriate and effective speech‑language intervention in all areas of speech‑language disorders such as articulation, language, fluency, and voice.

Communicate effectively with other school‑level professionals to provide the most appropriate program for identified students.

Communicate effectively with parents regarding students’ disabilities and progress.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods, talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands for finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee may be required to stoop, kneel, or crouch occasionally, and lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
