Location: SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) – Office of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.

As the Registered Nurse, Institutional, under limited supervision, you will plan and provide staff training and development for Harris Hospital. You will oversee preceptor, mentor, and orientation experiences and provide ongoing nursing education to nursing staff. This employee will be knowledgeable in age-specific criteria and intervention appropriate for effective and therapeutic interaction. Provide direct nursing care to patients as assigned, including assessing nursing needs, delegation of assignments for care to non-licensed nursing personnel.

Responsibilities for the Resource Nurse II include:

Provide orientation for employees. Develop and conduct ongoing nursing education/training and activities to nursing employees for all three (3) shifts. Facilitate clinical experience for nursing students. Update education material to reflect updated policies, procedures, and directives.

Assist in providing mandatory training and certification to include CPR and MANDT/MAPS instruction for all required disciplines. Maintain instructor status in CPR and other assigned courses.

Input documentation in SCEIS or other appropriate systems for nursing and non-nursing staff and tracks ongoing compliance status and works with employee supervisors to maintain compliance. Serve in consultant role to assist individual employees in improving skill performance.

Acquire, maintain, and demonstrate current knowledge of policies, procedures, and directives and Nursing Practices to provide quality patient care and promote professional growth and development. Maintain clinical competency through continuing education programs or in-services. Attend non-mandatory (20 hours) and mandatory in-services (ex. CPR/MANDT/MAPS/SCEIS).

Provide direct patient care in critical staff situations or in emergency situations assigned. Collaborate with the treatment team in multidisciplinary treatment planning process to facilitate and optimize patient care.

Assist with Infection Control Employee Health Department duties as needed or assigned.

Bachelor's degree in nursing and two years experience as a registered nurse, one of which must have been in psychiatric nursing.

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in South Carolina.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) or three (3) flights of stairs. Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas for long periods. Must be able to work with repetitive patient behaviors. Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing.

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Post hire, employees must:

Possess the ability to train nursing personnel.

Be able to organize thoughts clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and be able to make presentations to groups effectively.
