Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring BLS, ACLS, and proficiency in cardiac monitoring.
Responsibilities
Work in a Surgical Progressive Care Unit with nearly ICU-level acuity
Patient population includes ENT, thoracic, general surgery, urology, and medical overflow cases
Staffing ratio is 1:3-4 patients per nurse
Uses cardiac monitoring equipment and Cerner EMR system
Night shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts from 19:00 to 7:30
Every other weekend required and may need to work consecutive weekends based on operational needs
Floating to Med-Surg, PCU, or ICU may be required at the primary or affiliate hospital
Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned based on staffing needs with training provided
Must be willing to precept or be shadowed by students as part of the teaching environment
First-time travelers are accepted for this role
Refusal to float may result in termination of contract
Perm or PRN employees must have a 12-month gap before applying as a traveler
Holiday requirement includes working 2 out of 3 major holidays
Up to 5 days of time off can be auto-approved
All travelers must be open to floating within hospital or to affiliate facilities
Requirements
Active IN or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
Minimum of 18 months to 2 years RN experience required
Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or RQI accepted)
Proficiency in cardiac monitoring and management of chest tubes, fresh trachs, feeding tubes, epidurals, and non-titratable cardiac drips
Experience with IV insulin protocols, titration of insulin drips, BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy, and Doppler flap checks
EMR experience with Cerner required
Graduation from an accredited nursing program (ACEN or CCNE)
Not accepting local candidates for this PCU position
