Unit Details Progressive Care Unit

Our Progressive Care Unit is a fast-paced environment that includes high acuity patients. The leadership team fosters an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and building every team member.

Patient Population Trauma, high flow and ARVO oxygenation systems, vasoactive drips, chest pain, stroke, sepsis, COVID.

Patient Ratios 1:3 or 1:4

Number of Beds 32 beds

Shift FT Days; 7am-7pm

Requirements 2 years of Med/Surg/Tele; PCU experience preferred.

Department Specifics 77% BSN, multidisciplinary rounding with physicians, case management, PT/OT, etc. Self‑scheduling request system. Team involvement through Unit Based Council, education opportunities and other Baylor programs.

Job Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who coordinates patient care delivery using the BSWH nursing professional practice model. The RN assesses patients, develops individualized plans of care, evaluates outcomes, and delegates interventions in accordance with the Texas Nursing Practice Act. RNs work inpatient and outpatient departments with 24×7 staffing, including on‑call shifts. The RN promotes safe patient transitions and eliminates preventable complications.

Essential Functions of the Role Clinical judgment, comprehensive assessment, evidence‑based practice, compassionate patient care, advocacy, learning facilitation, collaboration, systems thinking, and professionalism are all key elements of the RN role.

Key Success Factors Knowledge of nursing standards, laws, medical terminology, patient privacy, communication skills, interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and the ability to observe and respond to changes in patient condition; computer skills (Microsoft Office, EMR, scheduling and payroll systems) are also required.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Certification/License/Registration: Registered Nurse (RN)

BLS: Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire or transfer

Eligibility: 2 years of Med/Surg/Tele; PCU experience preferred
