Job Summary:
The Clinical Nurse-Angio Specialty functions in an academic medical center with Level One Trauma designation, STEMI receiving center designation and Comprehensive Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center accreditation. Demonstrates advanced knowledge in invasive interventional procedures for stable and unstable inpatients and outpatients of all ages. Applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills. Scrubs, circulates, and/or assists physicians in performing simple and complex diagnostic and interventional procedures including, but not limited to, line placements, drain placements, biopsies, vascular stenting, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt procedures, embolizations and neurodiagnostic procedures. Performs the nursing process independently and serves as a role model in multidisciplinary age‑specific and developmentally appropriate patient care delivery methods, problem solving, documentation and communication. Consistently demonstrates expert level of clinical practice. Collaborates with leadership in the development of standards of practice. Embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. May be required to participate in on‑call rotation based on department business needs. Works at other sites licensed under Loma Linda University Medical Center as requested. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Associate of Science Degree in Nursing required. If hired after July 1, 2019, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Minimum one year experience in critical care, emergency department, cardiovascular lab or interventional radiology required.
Knowledge and Skills: Able to work in a fast‑paced environment and confined spaces. Demonstrates proficient competencies in critical care nursing and angio‑interventional radiology procedures. Skillfully adapts a variety of clinical settings. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in critical care and angio‑interventional radiology procedures. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Exhibit professional behavior at all times. Able to: speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents as necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications: Active California RN License required. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required. AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required by end of introductory period. Other certifications required as listed in the department‑specific Plan for Providing Care.
