As an Electrical Controls Engineer III, you’ll provide a lead role in MFG’s overall development of the Electrical, Programming, and Controls functional area in support of H‑E‑B Manufacturing’s current and future needs.

We are looking for:

a degree in electrical engineering (preferred)

5+ years of experience with controls systems in a manufacturing environment

a passion for leveraging innovative technologies to drive value in a manufacturing environment

What is the work? Manufacturing Operations:

Develop manufacturing equipment specifications and standards that align with industry code and regulations; support development, improvement, and refinement of standards focused on electrical, controls, and programming infrastructure/process; standardize sensors, probes, HMIs, hardware/software, etc., by manufacturing platform

Lead definition of key machine data to interface with PLC, SCADA, and MES systems

Develop hard‑wired and wireless network architecture standards for equipment platforms with IS support

Maintain central repository for all things electrical, including single‑line drawings, network architecture drawings, equipment electrical schematics, etc.

Ensure support contracts are in place for PLC, SCADA, MES, and other electrical controls systems

Assist in troubleshooting / analyzing problems on technical outages with electrical or programming interfaces

Support / maintain equipment electrical controls and programming systems

Maintain / improve equipment electrical drawings, and various control system hardware programs (e.g., PLCs, PACs, drives, ethernet switches, SCADA systems)

Troubleshoot plant controls systems, in partnership with cross‑functional H‑E‑B and third‑party resources

Provide technical support for plant teams in troubleshooting, education, overall alignment of technology with innovation, and implementation, including best practices / industry standards with regards to electrical, controls, and programming standards

Serve as a lead resource for SCADA and MES server / thin client solutions; update SCADA and MES server / thin client solutions per business requirements

Serve as lead resource for construction, commissioning, qualification, and validation of new equipment with focus on electrical, controls, and programming technology

Assist with capital plan development, focusing on network architecture and electrical controls systems

Develop / modify electrical drawings as required, using AutoCAD; update electrical single‑lines, and schematics and networking infrastructure layouts

Assist in development of plant programming / E&I Leader

Lead / ensure continuous improvement of H‑E‑B manufacturing electrical specifications and engineering work‑flow processes; partner with appropriate resources to review current process flows; determine if there are opportunities to improve equipment reliability

Evaluate / implement emerging technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and wearables)

Project Management:

Develop / execute electrical controls and programming projects; support larger MFG capital projects, using internal / external resources and leveraging cross‑functional teams to meet project success criteria

Lead projects by using H‑E‑B’s project management methodology as well as supplemental electrical controls & programming templates. Examples: Project charter, project schedule, SOW's, RFP's, RFQ's, WBS, FAT, SAT, CQV, etc.

Lead projects by providing equipment electrical drawing reviews to ensure compliance with H‑E‑B MFG electrical controls specifications

Serve as an internal resource for project teams to provide key direction on functionality, specifications, standards, integration with plant systems with a heavy focus on electrical controls

Develop / provide necessary pre‑project technical training (including electrical) and leadership skills (related to high‑performance work system principles)

Leadership:

Serve on multiple steering committees and provide technical direction for each site or division

Provide leadership support in acquiring benefits of a full MES system; serve as coach and support for dashboard development and utilization, with standards as a guide

Develop strategic and tactical plans for electrical controls and programming

Develop / maintain new and existing electrical controls programs (e.g., arc flash, MES, SCADA, etc.)

What is your background?

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (preferred)

10+ years of experience in progressive manufacturing, integrator, or OEM environments

10+ years of experience with controls systems in a manufacturing environment

7+ years of electrical drawing experience

4+ years of experience developing SCADA and MES thin client server solutions

3+ years strategic planning experience

Significant experience with data collection, MES system execution, and systems start‑up and troubleshooting

Experience / expertise in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), ladder logic, and similar systems

Experience successfully identifying, recommending, and implementing system changes to improve productivity, reduce cost, and minimize work in the electrical, programming, and controls space

Experience working in AutoCAD
