Overview
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Project Manager to oversee the successful delivery of complex civil construction projects from initiation through closeout. The company is known for its commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence across mining, civil, and infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for a highly motivated leader with strong technical expertise, the ability to collaborate with field teams, and a passion for building high-performing project environments.
The Role Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, the Project Manager will provide full oversight of project planning, budgeting, scheduling, execution, and performance management. This individual will work closely with General Superintendents, Superintendents, and Foremen to ensure project goals are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with client expectations. Success in this role requires a strong command of heavy civil construction, effective communication, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
Lead project planning, coordination, and execution across all phases of heavy civil construction projects.
Collaborate with field leadership teams to foster a cohesive, high-performing project environment.
Develop and manage project budgets based on company cost detail.
Create and maintain project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
Conduct site inspections to monitor progress, identify risks, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Collaborate with owners, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to resolve issues and ensure quality results.
Manage procurement processes, including bid reviews, contract negotiations, and vendor selection.
Oversee cost control, manage change orders, and ensure adherence to budget requirements.
Prepare and review project submittals, RFIs, correspondence, and monthly customer invoices.
Deliver weekly project status reports and participate in monthly WIP meetings.
Maintain accurate digital project files using company online systems.
Support business development efforts by participating in meetings and client engagements.
Assist with hiring processes, including screening and interviewing candidates.
Maintain MSHA compliance documentation and attend required training.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
Minimum 3 years’ experience managing heavy civil construction projects.
Strong understanding of project budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and cost control.
Proficient in construction documentation, including plans, specifications, and technical drawings.
Experience with MS Project, Office 365, SharePoint, and Trimble (or willingness to learn).
Knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations.
Strong communication, leadership, and team coordination skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Comfortable working in varying weather conditions and occasionally handling physical tasks on site.
Nice to Have
Professional certifications such as PMP, EIT, PE, MSHA, or OSHA.
Experience delivering civil construction projects in South Carolina.
Background in contract negotiation and claims management.
