Rate of pay: $14.70/hr - $15.30/hr

Shift: Shifts vary. Must have experience working with youth. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and be available for varied hours as well as Saturdays and Sundays.

JOB SUMMARY: The Shift Lead will be responsible for the basic supervision of the Kids Zone/Teen Center and surrounding area. Must be able to supervise staff and volunteers and make sure that everyone follows safety standards and rules of the YMCA.

The Shift Lead must possess the competence and confidence to supervise a safe environment for all children/teens. They must be responsible and at least 18 years of age and have the ability to cooperate and work with other YMCA staff to provide a quality environment. The Shift Lead must demonstrate good communication and problem solving skills. Must have the skills, knowledge and genuine willingness to work with youth. High School graduate or equivalent required. Upon hire, CPR, AED, First Aid certification required. Upon hire, Kids Zone University, Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE are required. Within 90 days of hire, Preventing Sexual Abuse Between Young Children, Principles of Youth Development, Youth Relationships: Creating Positive Interactions, and Youth Affirmations: Distinguishing Between Praise and Encouragement trainings required. Within 6 months of hire, Introduction to S.A.F.E., Foundations of Listen First, and Engaging with Families trainings required. Get SMART preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: Since this position is dealing directly with children and their parents, good verbal communication skills are required.

PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: This individual needs to be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds. If individual must lift and carry more than 50 pounds, they must ask for assistance from another staff member. This individual may be required to stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating physical stamina and agility. The Shift Lead must be friendly and professional at all times.

JOB DUTIES:

Perform safety inspections of Kids Zone.

Always be enthusiastic and positive when working with other YMCA Staff, children, and parents.

Always wear the YMCA staff shirt, name tag, SMART pin, and appropriate kids gym attire.

Takes responsibility for the leadership and guidance of Kids Zone Attendant, Volunteers, as well as children.

Acquaints children with rules, activities, daily schedules and area.

Takes responsibility for the safety/welfare of each child.

Distribute materials and make program announcements as needed. Create and maintain direct communication line with children's parents.

Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Keep supplies organized, maintain a clean facility and care for equipment. Takes responsibility for helping maintain good working conditions, inventory, and clean-up after all activities.

Follow the instructions of supervisor. Communicate with other staff members.

Monitor all staff, volunteers, and members to make sure they are following all safety standards & personnel policy at all times set by the YMCA.

Attend all staff meetings and trainings.

Follow all safety standards and personal policy set by the YMCA.

Maintain a clean appearance in the Kids Zone including the play area and storage room at all times.

To be responsible for Kids Zone equipment, and to report to your supervisor any damaged equipment promptly.

To maintain and distribute first aid supplies as needed by participants and to follow YMCA policy and guidelines in the event of accident or injury. This includes the filling out of accident and incident reports and the notification to your supervisor.
