Systems/Network Analyst 3
The Center for High Technology Materials (CHTM) and Office of Vice President for Research (OVPR) at the University of New Mexico seek a highly motivated, dynamic, detail-oriented, organized, and experienced individual to provide daily IT support to faculty, staff, postdocs, students, and outside researchers. This matrixed position reports 90% to CHTM and 10% to OVPR for the first 24 months (reporting may change afterward). The role involves installation, configuration, administration, updating, backup, and repair of hundreds of computers and peripherals in a complex research environment, covering servers (Linux, BSD, Windows), desktops and workstations (Windows, Linux, Mac), laptops (Windows, Mac), and network printers. The candidate will manage software licenses, configure and maintain the Center’s Linux-based tool management system, serve as the technical expert within the Center, and resolve complex hardware and software issues. Work is performed in laboratories with hazardous chemicals or equipment; training on hazard avoidance will be provided.
Additional responsibilities include collaborating with OVPR Research IT on projects across CHTM and OVPR, interfacing with IT staff to ensure compliance with UNM requirements, and potentially supervising lower-level IT staff or student employees.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Five years of in‑person hardware and software support experience, including legacy Windows operating systems on older hardware.
Two years of experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Linux/BSD/UNIX operating systems, including command‑line scripting and configuration.
Two years of experience administering Windows 10/11 systems using Microsoft SCCM, Intune, or similar management tools.
Strong communication and documentation skills for end‑users and staff.
Familiarity with installing, configuring, and maintaining Apache HTTP Server, Apache Tomcat, Nagios, SQL, and FlexLM applications on Linux or BSD.
Ability to provide daily in‑person and remote support to users with varied computer skill levels.
Knowledge of networking protocols and security (VLANs, switch configuration, traffic monitoring and filtering, intrusion detection, cabling, and connectivity troubleshooting).
Experience designing and assembling custom systems for specific user requirements.
Prior experience in an academic environment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
US citizenship.
