Position Overview Our Critical Care Advanced Practice Professionals (APPs) are located across three Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist campuses in Winston‑Salem, Lexington, and High Point, providing expert care in a variety of intensive care settings. Lexington hosts a 16‑bed ICU; High Point hosts a 24‑bed ICU. Winston‑Salem offers specialized critical care across multiple subspecialties, including Neuro ICU, Medical ICU, Medical Oncology ICU, and Cardiothoracic ICU. APPs will be considered for positions at all campuses and credentialed at all Critical Care locations.

Hours per week: 40. Schedule details: 36 shifts per quarter – 50% days (6 am‑6 pm), 50% nights (6 pm‑6 am). Pay range: $53.80 – $80.70 per hour.

Responsibilities

Perform physical assessment and management of a broad range of critical illnesses.

Conduct initial resuscitation and management, and coordinate clinical care between intensivists and consulting teams.

Assist with common critical care procedures, including insertion of central venous catheters, dialysis, arterial line placement and monitoring, and endotracheal intubation.

Order and interpret laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.

Collaborate with critical care physicians in Specialty Intensive Care Units and work with ICU staff (nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, nutrition services).

Provide comprehensive care of critically ill patients, counseling patients and families on illness details, care, and decision‑making processes, and preparing them for discharge from the ICU.

Participate in basic science and clinical research projects; potential to precept students and/or medical learners.

Qualifications Physician Assistant (PA) Requirements

Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Master’s Degree preferred.

Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License, certified by NCCPA.

Minimum of one year of experience in a critical care or urgent/emergent care environment.

Current DEA registration.

Current BLS and ACLS certification.

Nurse Practitioner (NP) Requirements

Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Master’s Program; Master’s degree or higher required.

Current North Carolina Board of Nursing Registered Nurse license and Nurse Practitioner license.

Board certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by AANP or ANCC.

Minimum of one year of experience in a critical care or urgent/emergent care environment.

Current DEA registration.

Current BLS and ACLS certification.
