Position Overview
Innovative Therapeutic Services (ITS) is seeking a Licensed Behavioral Health Professional (Substance Abuse) to provide mental health and substance use services to children and adolescents in a juvenile detention center setting. This role focuses on screening, assessment, documentation, and psychoeducational interventions for justice-involved youth with substance use concerns.
The ideal candidate is a licensed substance abuse professional in Maryland who is experienced in working with adolescents, knowledgeable in standardized screening tools, and committed to delivering ethical, trauma-informed care.
Onboarding and required training are expected to begin in February 2026, with staff assuming their full clinical roles effective
March 1, 2026 .
Key Responsibilities
Provide substance use and behavioral health services to children and adolescents in a juvenile detention center setting
Review each SASSI-A2 within 24 hours of youth intake
Re‑administer the SASSI-A2 within 24 hours if results are invalid, the youth refuses screening, or intake screening was not completed
Complete substance abuse screening notes and document all clinical contact in the youth’s record
Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments as needed
Prepare biopsychosocial assessments in compliance with Department‑approved formats
Document clinical recommendations in the youth’s record and communicate findings to case managers to support care coordination
Facilitate weekly one‑hour psychoeducational groups for youth
Attend clinical staff meetings as scheduled
Perform other duties as assigned
Education, Licensure & Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work
Required Licensure: LCADC, active and in good standing in the state of Maryland
Minimum of 3 years of counseling experience
Required experience working with children and adolescents in a juvenile detention center setting
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet‑based systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Willing to complete a federal and state background check
Reliable transportation

As part of our strategic expansion, ITS is extending mental health services throughout Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) centers across Maryland.
