Job Description Part Time, Weekend Only, Day Shift. This position works for Hospice of Cincinnati Central Inpatient Unit in Blue Ash. The hours are 7:00 AM–7:30 PM (day shift). Weekend incentive pay. Must be willing to float to other 3 inpatient care centers as needed (Anderson, Hamilton, & Christ) and Continuous Care. Mileage reimbursement is provided when floating, along with a scheduled shift float incentive. Conducts bedside shift reporting; point‑of‑care charting; demonstrates flexibility. Knowledge of computer systems, basic keyboarding skills and ability to perform computer‑related tasks.
Job Overview This position applies the nursing process in providing direct and indirect holistic care to patients and their families. The RN collaborates in a collegial manner with physicians and other health‑care team members in meeting the patient’s needs, and may delegate aspects of care to those under their direct supervision within the scope of nursing practice. The RN must work weekend hours and may be on‑call during evenings and nights, requiring flexibility.
Job Requirements
Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing
New hires required to obtain BSN within 5 years of hire
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS)
Registered Nurse license
Knowledge, judgment, and skills derived from the Principles of Biological, Physical, Behavioral, Social, and Nursing sciences to meet complex health care needs at various stages of the life cycle
Preferred membership in related professional organization
Up to 1 year experience Clinical in Nursing unit‑specific area
Job Responsibilities
Perform initial and ongoing assessment of patient and family; complete initial assessment tool and document ongoing assessment per unit/TriHealth guidelines.
Communicate assessment findings to other health‑care providers as appropriate; include health counseling and teaching needs in assessment.
Plan care for patient and family based on assessment, standards of care, and optimal specific outcomes; initiate and individualize appropriate patient care guidelines/plan of care or clinical pathways; update current plan as needed.
Develop both short‑ and long‑term goals with patient/family and healthcare team, including discharge planning; communicate plan of care to others.
Provide a safe, therapeutic environment, maintain patient’s autonomy, dignity, and rights, and be sensitive to patient diversity.
Seek resources to help form ethical decisions; balance patient’s needs and those of the unit/facility.
Recognize emergency situations and take appropriate action; complete patient assignments including documentation within scheduled timeframe.
Base interventions on clinical data and desired outcomes and document accordingly; train and educate other staff and act as expert resource.
Effectively communicate information relative to surgical cases and carry out physician orders.
Evaluate the plan of care for patient based on optimal specific patient outcomes; document patient/family response to care including teaching.
Collaborate with patient/family and with other members of the health‑care team, including physicians, to revise plan of care as needed; supervise care delegated to other team members.
Perform technical skills according to policy and procedure and accepted standards within the area of practice; safely administer medications/treatments and monitor their effects.
Use all equipment safely and appropriately.
Assume organizational and educational responsibilities; identify areas for professional and self‑improvement through self‑assessment, peer review, continuing education, professional organization membership, and/or certification.
Share knowledge and skills with colleagues and others; provide peers with constructive feedback; maintain awareness of ongoing continuous improvement changes and support changes through active participation.
