JOB SUMMARY The PA/NP is an essential part of the medical staff for Parker County Hospital District’s Rural Health Clinic. Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the PA/NP performs all duties associated with providing healthcare services. The PA/NP is an integral part of the day to day operations of the Rural Health Clinic in accordance with the overall goals set forth by the Clinic Manager and District administration.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform history and physical examinations according to RHC procedure guidelines and to the policies/procedures of the clinic.
Complete progress notes accurately and in a timely manner.
Give written or verbal orders for the following: Routineadmission, laboratory, diagnostic studies.
General patient care measures, including diet, activity levels, routine vital signs.
Symptomatictreatments including physical therapy, inhalation therapy, etc.
Prescribes medications in accordance with clinical policy, state and federal law.
Counsel the patient as to preventative care, medical problems, exercise, diet, smoking cessation, other lifestyle changes and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
Perform standard clinical procedures including but not limited to: Vein punctures
EKG
Application of dressings
Wound care
Sutures of superficial wounds
Removal of sutures, staples
Pap smears
Incise and drain superficial abscesses.
Removal of foreign bodies
Communicate and request assistance from Medical Director when needed for more challenging diagnoses and/or treatment decisions.
Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about treatment of patients.
Obtain, compile and record patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination.
Communicate effectively with Medical Director, MA’s and other co-workers via phone, email, written form or in person.
Knowledge of appropriate emergency medical procedures (i.e.: ACLS, stroke, diabetic, seizure victims).
Use of proper aseptic technique for health care setting.
Follow proper biohazard procedures.
Make necessary referrals or consultations for services not provided by the clinic.
Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether or not practices/processes comply with laws, regulations or general standards of practice.
Preceptor to PA/NP students.
Delegate and supervise MA/office staff in medically necessary tasks and responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Maintain current PA/NP licensing.
Maintain CME credits.
Maintains CPR certification.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Working knowledge of computers in a health care setting (hardware/software), including EMR, internet, email, etc.
EDUATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of accredited Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Program leading to a master’s degree and/or meets the Advanced Physician Assistant/Advanced Nursing Practice requirements set forth by the Texas Medical Board or the Texas State Board of Nursing.
Must possess appropriate certification and degree from a United States institution of Higher Education.
Must be licensed in the State of Texas prior to employment.
No experience necessary; two years preferred.
