is seeking a

Maritime Network Engineer

to support a long‑term federal program. This is a full‑time remote position with occasional travel. The Maritime Network Engineer will work on a National Security Multi‑Mission Vessel (NSMV) program, providing critical IT network engineering and system administration support. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in maritime networking, cybersecurity hardening, and virtualization technologies.

Responsibilities Include:

Provide IT network engineering and system administration support for MARAD’s Office of Maritime Security and NSMV Program.

Serve as a subject matter expert for network operations, server and virtualization services, cybersecurity compliance, and maritime network architecture.

Collaborate with MARAD Program Office on NSMV network acceptance and testing, including reporting and documentation.

Support MARAD’s Office of Ship Operations to ensure readiness for continuous operations supporting DoD, DHS, and other agencies.

Assist with audits, assessments, exercises, and training for contracted ship managers and operators.

Provide expertise in network architecture and security throughout the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Support acquisition and maintenance of Authority to Operate (ATO) for NSMVs.

Administer and maintain Windows Server and Linux systems across shipboard and shore environments.

Manage Active Directory, VMware vSphere/ESXi, and enterprise services (DNS, DHCP, certificates).

Apply DISA STIGs for cybersecurity hardening and compliance.

Maintain system baselines, documentation, backup/recovery procedures, and configuration standards.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field.

Experience: 8+ years in maritime network engineering and system administration.

Skills:

Deep understanding of U.S. maritime industry network best practices.

Experience with maritime/vessel network operations, security, and architecture.

Familiarity with U.S. Coast Guard and IMO network requirements.

Proficiency in Cisco networking, Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, and VMware.

Strong customer service and problem‑solving skills.

U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Navy, Coast Guard, or maritime network background.

Experience with virtualization, storage, and system monitoring tools.

Knowledge of cybersecurity compliance frameworks (RMF/NIST).

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Certifications:

Cisco CCNA or CCNP (Enterprise).

VMware VCP.

Microsoft Server/Active Directory certifications.

Security Clearance:

Must have or be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Compliance with DOT personnel security requirements.

Work Schedule & Travel:

Hybrid remote with up to 25% travel.

Locations include Philadelphia, Washington DC, Bronx NY, Buzzards Bay MA, and other state maritime academies.

Occasional at‑sea periods (up to 7 days) and ability to report on‑site within 48 hours for emergent needs.

Compensation & Benefits:

$130,000 – $150,000.

Salary commensurate with experience.
