Job Description Job Summary The EdRedesign Lab at Harvard Graduate School of Education supports transformational change in education through talent development, actionable research, and cross‑sector collaboration. Reporting to the Deputy Director & Director of the Institute for Success Planning, the Director of Applied Data and Community Insights will implement a comprehensive data and evaluation strategy for the Lab’s two focus areas: personalized‑relationship‑based supports and place‑based cross‑sector collaboration.
Job‑Specific Responsibilities Financial Systems Programming Support the Director of Finance & Operations with financial reporting, budgeting, projections, and strategy using Harvard systems, Excel, and other finance software. Build and maintain models for accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Automate tasks with high‑level programming.
A model for allocating staff effort across grants, ensuring proper utilization of grant funds.
A system for tracking expenses to actuals across all projects and departments.
A system for projecting expenses.
A system for 3‑year projections of the financial standing of EdRedesign, including scenario planning.
A system for creating budgets for grant proposals and grant reporting.
Financial Transactions
Process all payment requests, ensuring timely payment and compliance with University policies and contractual obligations.
Handle/troubleshoot supplier set‑up and updates in Buy2Pay and serve as a resource to Lab staff on payment requests and supplier set‑up.
Maintain tracking system for all payment requests.
Review corporate card reports and reconcile department card transactions in Concur.
Serve as the Lab’s P‑Card administrator, including submitting applications, reviewing monthly transactions, maintaining receipts, and answering questions.
Collaborate with external departments on co‑sponsored activities and cross‑validated arrangements.
Financial Administration
Assist with fiscal month‑end and year‑end accounting and reconciliation, and other financial administration tasks.
Apply financial policies, compliance, and accounting procedures to ensure compliance with Lab, HGSE, and University policies and applicable legal rules.
Work closely with the Director of Finance to draft and implement departmental financial policies and procedures.
Review financial data/transactions for compliance with fund terms and conditions, funding availability, and fund allocation, and make corrections by preparing journals.
Serve as a resource to Lab staff on transactional inquiries and financial/budgetary questions requiring problem‑solving and analytic capability.
Make recommendations on effective use of financial tools such as Chart of Accounts.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
Produce and distribute financial reports to inform Lab leadership on resource allocation and decision‑making.
Perform financial analysis and modeling to forecast income and expenses and report on financial status through quarterly variance analysis.
Identify spending trends, recognize potential budget or compliance issues, and make recommendations for fund management and improvements.
Prepare varied financial reports including budget‑to‑actuals and highlight key issues for Lab leadership.
Perform ad‑hoc financial analyses as needed.
Budgeting and Forecasting
Assist the Director of Finance with preparation of annual budget documents and all budget‑related processes.
Assist with development of domain or project‑specific budgets as needed.
Perform financial analysis and modeling to forecast income and expenses; assist with multi‑year forecasting.
This position is a term appointment for one year from the date of hire, with a possibility of renewal based on operational need and funding.
HGSE is developing dynamic workplace models that support both on‑campus and remote work where business and operational needs allow. Remote work must be performed within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business.
Qualifications Basic Qualifications
Minimum 5 years related finance/accounting experience.
Previous experience in non‑profit accounting.
Experience with financial systems including Macros, Power Query, and Power BI, or similar tools.
Ability to work overtime during peak periods, including nights and weekends.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Appointment End Date: 1 year from date of hire.
Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week.
Compensation Range/Rate: $75k – $84k commensurate with experience.
