Job Description The Full Stack Architect designs, describes, and manages solution engineering across the end‑to‑end lifecycle, including frontend, backend, database, and debugging of applications or sites. The role uses business acumen and technical expertise to lead the technical vision, create complex distributed solutions, technical designs, and integrations.
Depth & Scope
Seasoned individual contributor with expert knowledge of enterprise/functional domains and a track record working with a broad range of architecture frameworks, technology, tools, and procedures
Exceptional collaboration, communication and client‑facing skills
Big‑picture thinker, anticipating architectural gaps using advanced business acumen and specialized technical knowledge of TD’s applications, programming languages, industry best practices, bank standards, infrastructure and design solutions
Architect assigned to work autonomously on high‑profile, complex, and high‑risk technology projects with significant organizational impact
Education & Experience
Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate (Graduate degree preferred)
10+ years relevant experience developing platforms
Experience with Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Pair Programming and/or Test‑Driven Development (authoring Unit, Integration, Functional Tests) – an asset
Demonstrated experience with leading technical tools integration in a complex environment
Customer Accountabilities
Apply multi‑disciplined expertise with database, application, client tiers, software layers, build, test, and deploy strategies to create overall design of software, guiding sub‑components across teams
Elevate focus on applications and data as differentiators for customer experience, anchored in foundational infrastructure and platforms
Advise on technology stacks, defining principles/constraints, rallying teams for security, scalability, and impact assessments for future design
Drive continual upgrading and practical program concerns to innovate server‑side and user‑side features, reducing tech debt and building resilient solutions
Lead code reviews, prototype testing, configuration management, and build automation to deploy code and provide critical suggestions for improvement
Monitor and report progress, collaborating broadly with designers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure necessary features are developed within the portfolio
Design tests, support issue analysis, and resolve production issues during test phases
Collaborate with practices, mentor junior colleagues, and stay on top of expanding technologies and engineering trends
Shareholder Accountabilities
Set service‑level objectives and exercise key decision rights as an FSA
Focus on reliability, scalability, and architectural infrastructure for complex systems
Develop observability standards to ensure production systems operate under known conditions, providing measurable insights for error and failure anticipation
Lead interaction with governance and control groups (regulatory, operational risk, compliance, audit) to consult on architectural risk issues
Lead or contribute to cross‑functional/enterprise initiatives as an org or subject matter expert
Monitor and report status of products/projects, ensuring compliance with technology domain architecture and development standards
Foresee architectural issues/gaps, identify emerging trends, and recommend improvements to reduce tech debt
Map processes bridging business problems and technology solutions
Maintain code change tracking via control systems
Collaborate within practices, inspire teams to embrace change and advance technical knowledge
Protect organizational interests, identify/manage risks, and raise high‑risk activities as needed
Stay abreast of regulatory changes and align risk management processes with appetite
