About the Agency The goal of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety is to make Mississippi a safer place for the state’s three million residents. This position is in the Office of Finance & Accounting. The Admin Support Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Managing incoming & outgoing mail, supply ordering, creating shopping carts through MAGIC, handling incoming & outgoing communications, operating standard office equipment, and coordinating special projects. Assists administrative support supervisors in the administration of agency programs and operations in the coordination of communications internally and externally, and in representing the agency to the public. The employee performs work exercising a high degree of confidentiality essential in executing assigned duties.

What you'll need to be Successful Great communication and customer service skills, team player, ability to multitask, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Must have the necessary skill set to be accountable for various support service functions such as personnel support, general accounting, and maintenance of files and records. Must also have knowledge of the administration of agency programs and operations in the coordination of communication internally and externally. Employees must exercise a high degree of confidentiality, essential in executing assigned duties. Must be willing to maintain frequent contact with various public and private groups and officials to exchange non-routine information as well as to interpret rules and regulations. Must also be able to make independent decisions in all facets of this position, including disseminating confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 4-6 years of experience.Agency preferred qualifications: Experience with general administrative duties, such as spreadsheets and word processing.
