Recreation Supervisor - Apex Centre

Overview of Position Under general supervision, the Recreation Supervisor is responsible for the overall programming of recreation and fitness programs at the McKinney Aquatics and Fitness Center (MAFC). Duties include marketing, sales, budgeting to achieve 100% cost‑recovery, developing standards and practices, managing staff, overseeing contracts, ensuring guest safety and providing a superior member experience. The position may serve as Manager on Duty on a rotating schedule and may require evening or weekend work.
Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Manage the recreation/fitness division budget, including revenue and expense funds, to achieve self‑sufficiency.
Supervise program/activity staff, fitness floor staff, camp counselors, and athletic personnel including hiring, training, coaching, counseling, and evaluating all staff.
Develop an annual sales plan and strategic action plan to achieve budgetary goals of a 100% cost recovery facility.
Develop recreation, fitness, and athletic programs including descriptions, schedules, instructors, etc. for brochure periods.
Manage and remit the division’s pricing of services, staff and contract employee payroll, sales and other revenues and expenses to meet budget and forecast goals.
Ensure the operation of both divisions meets city standards and provides an environment of member and guest delight.
Manage all recreation/fitness programming and marketing practices, policies and systems necessary for achieving the division and facility’s strategic and business plan goals.
Manage contracts with group exercise instructors and personal trainers.
Manage all leagues and recreation activities, including employees and contractors who instruct/service these programs.
Ensure the safety of all facility guests.
Maintain a clean and orderly facility, including preventative maintenance on all equipment; ensure equipment is in proper working order.
Create, coordinate, resource, implement, deliver, market and sell all recreation/fitness programs and services.
Assist in the delivery of division services as required, such as working the floor, instructing a class, or facilitating program activities.
Administer standards of operation, policies and procedures.
Administer recreation services including the oversight of sports leagues and supervision of recreation activities.
Serve as Manager on Duty on a rotating schedule as needed.
Work various shifts, including evenings and weekends, as scheduled.
Other Job Functions
Conduct regular meetings and education sessions for direct‑report employees; cooperate with the facility manager in conducting an annual meeting for all employees.
Handle the daily, weekly and monthly payroll functions for all groups, including collecting and auditing contractors’ commission sheets, preparing payroll activities, and managing payroll and commission expense to plan.
Meet regularly with the management team to ensure complete cooperation between divisions in the facility and effective communication regarding the division’s services and operations.
Assist others when necessary, as the fluctuating demands of the facility may require performing a variety of tasks.
Conduct oneself professionally with the MAFC approved uniform and nametag.
Adhere to all written mandatory standards of operation, policies, procedures, manuals, memos, oral instructions and more.
Attend all scheduled employee meetings and perform other tasks as needed or directed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Behaviors
Knowledge of general office machines and software, including computers, printers/copiers, and Microsoft Office products such as Outlook.
Knowledge of customer service practices and protocols.
Strong knowledge of key components of the sales and fitness processes.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including proper telephone etiquette.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with facility staff, customers, vendors and volunteers.
Detail‑ and results‑oriented, highly motivated, analytical thinker, and able to work independently.
Desire to achieve goals, maximize member opportunities, and enjoy a competitive sales environment.
Strong customer service focus and ability to respond professionally to requests and inquiries from guests, members and staff.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Health, Fitness, Recreation or related field, or six years of experience in a sports or recreation field in lieu of education.
Minimum of two years in a supervisory or similar division head role.
Minimum of four years of experience in the recreation industry.
CPR/AED certification required; certification in TAAF Sports Management and/or national organizations such as ACSM, ACE, NASM preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Non‑smoker.
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a drug screen, driving record check, and background check.
Must have a valid Texas Class C driver's license and meet the City’s driving standards.
No visible tattoos, unnatural hair color, or piercings worn during shift.
Any work related experience that results in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the specified education and experience requirements.
Physical Demands / Supplemental Information Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to speak and hear. Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
