Fractional Controller Responsibilities
Oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll coordination
Manage monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes on both cash and accrual bases, as required
Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses
Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, including cash flow planning and project‑level forecasting
Oversee job costing and project accounting, ensuring accurate tracking of costs, revenue, margins, and work‑in‑progress
Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to monitor project performance and financial outcomes
Ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with applicable accounting standards and contract terms
Establish, maintain, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Support system usage and optimisation for project accounting and financial reporting tools (experience with Deltek Ajera or similar systems preferred)
Manage compliance requirements, including tax filings, audits, and coordination with external accountants
Provide financial insights and recommendations to support operational and strategic decisions
Assist with process improvements, system implementations, and scalability initiatives as the business grows
Serve as a trusted financial advisor to leadership on an as‑needed basis
Fractional Controller Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent experience preferred
Proven experience in a controller or senior accounting role, ideally within construction, engineering, or project‑based environments
Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, and construction financial practices
Experience managing closes on both cash and accrual bases
Hands‑on experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
Familiarity with Deltek Ajera or comparable project management and accounting software preferred, but not required
Strong analytical, organisational, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and adapt to changing business needs
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with both financial and operational stakeholders
