The Learning Center Work Study Aide provides general support to students and staff of the Learning Center as well as the English Language Institute. Some work study aides in the Learning Center will be assigned to office roles, while others may tutor students, provided they meet the same academic requirements as our peer tutors. Responsibilities
Greet students in the Learning Center in a friendly, courteous, welcoming manner. Use a computer to follow a schedule of appointments. Assist students in scheduling tutoring appointments. Assist students in signing‑in for tutoring appointments. Answer phones and take messages. Assist students in signing out laptops and calculators. Maintain the confidentiality of students using the Learning Center Services. Participate in periodic training and staff meetings. Tutor students in courses that you have been approved to tutor (if academically eligible). Perform related work as required. Requirements
To see if you qualify for Federal Work Study (FWS) positions: Visit OCC's Work‑Study page. Review the Work‑Study Checklist. And submit a Work‑Study Interest Form. Must be a U.S. citizen or in the U.S. for other than a temporary purpose with the intention of becoming a permanent resident (Eligible Non‑Citizen). Must be matriculated into a program and currently enrolled. Must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. Must display a financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office. Must apply yearly for Federal aid by completing the "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" (FAFSA). Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress for Federal Financial Aid. Preferred Requirements
Have a written recommendation from a professor or college employee. Have prior experience in customer service and working with the public. Must enjoy working with diverse populations including those learning the English language. Multilingual students are encouraged to apply. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Needed
Clear Communication Skills: Able to talk to others and convey information effectively. Empathy and Patience: Able to relate to others in a warm, calm and understanding manner. Dependability: Able to manage your time well and show up on time for work as scheduled. Willingness to Learn: Comfortable learning new concepts and using new technologies. Additional Information
Pay Rate: $15.50 Hours of Operation: This position is temporary and part‑time (typically between 5–15 hours per week). Application Instructions
