For the 2024‑2025 academic year, we enrolled over 12,000 students in which 68% identify as Latinx, 8% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% as Black/African American, 17% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% as multiracial. Responsibilities

Assist and collaborate in developing student support services with an emphasis on veterans’ needs and services to improve veterans’ access to college and their retention and completion rates;

Provide specialized veterans counseling services complying with all required reporting and documentation;

Provide comprehensive counseling services to students, including academic, career, personal and life transitions counseling on an appointment and walk‑in basis;

Assist in the organization and implementation of matriculation activities, such as orientation, counseling and follow‑up services to students;

Assist students with major selection, develop student education plans (SEPs) aligned with their educational goals and career pathways;

Assist with the development and implementation of Guided Pathways, Student Equity Achievement (SEA), and other student success initiatives;

Work collaboratively with instructional faculty, staff, and administrators in the development of student success initiatives and provision of counseling in support of guided pathways and other programs, including but not limited to first‑year experience programs;

Assist, as needed, with articulation, student outreach, and recruitment activities;

Provide assistance and referrals to on/off‑campus resources and student support services including Admissions & Records, EOPS, CalWORKs, Career/Transfer & Employment Center, DSP&S, Financial Aid, Academic Success Centers, TRiO, and off‑campus community resources;

Participate in meetings, conferences, trainings, and other professional development activities to maintain the expertise required to provide accurate and reliable information and support to students seeking to complete a certificate, associate degree, or transfer;

Assist new and prospective students with college applications and college orientation;

Assist and maintain program website to ensure information is current and accessible to students;

Develop and teach counseling courses such as career planning, academic success and college introduction;

Monitor and implement programs in compliance with federal, state, district, and college regulations, policies, and procedures;

Provide counseling services, as needed, during days, evenings, and weekends possibly at MCC, Oakhurst Campus and off‑site locations;

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Students;

Participate in the accreditation process;

Communicate effectively with students and staff and maintain effective working relationships;

Develop and/or utilize technologies for classroom presentations;

Participate in appropriate professional meetings and workshops;

Work with colleagues within and beyond the discipline to implement the guided pathways concept to promote student success and completion;

Participate in student recruitment activities;

Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed;

Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning;

Work assignments and provide services in a variety of settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, and online or off‑campus as needed;

Otherwise fulfill all of the duties of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity‑minded practice within the classroom; AND

Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or related field; OR

A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed disciplines and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); OR

A valid California Community College Credential; OR

Equivalent education and/or experience (requires equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications

Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;

Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion shape participation and outcomes;

Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds including students with disabilities;

Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;

Experience with counseling and advising veterans and their dependents;

Knowledge of the veteran student experiences and strategies to ensure retention, persistence, and completion of educational goals;

Experience advising students on the requirements for Associate degrees and Associate Degree for Transfer and general education patterns for both CSU & UC;

Experience participating in outreach, recruitment and matriculation activities;

Demonstrated understanding of Student Equity and Achievement (SEA), Guided Pathways, and other student success initiatives;

Demonstrated ability to design and implement innovative teaching methodologies;

Commitment to working collaboratively with instructors and colleagues;

Enthusiasm for teaching and assisting students to succeed;

Ability to use current educational technology methods and tools;

Knowledge and experience in student learning outcome assessment;

Memberships in professional organizations;

Experience addressing equity issues in the classroom;

Knowledge of the community college’s mission and goals.

Conditions of Employment 178‑181 duty days per year. Duty days will be prorated based upon start of assignment.

Salary and Benefits Annual starting salary is $71,054‑$108,773 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. The district offers a fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage and life insurance. Employees are members of CalSTRS.

Selection Procedure Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications. Those who meet the minimum qualifications and submit all required documents by the closing date will be reviewed by a selection advisory committee. Selected candidates will be invited to interview and then recommended to the vice‑president and college president for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the college president and forwarded to the board of trustees for final approval. Interview weeks: first level and final level are scheduled for TBD.
