Overview
Through its wholly owned subsidiaries, American States Utility Services, Inc. (ASU) contracts with the federal government to provide water and wastewater services on military installations. The installations served are home to nearly 350,000 military and civilian personnel and families across the United States, including Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Florida, Kansas, and Massachusetts.

Primary Job Functions
Under close supervision, perform activities related to all phases of water and wastewater system utility construction.
Observe and comply with all Federal, State, and Company safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Operate backhoe, excavator, loader, and skidsteer and provide training and assistance to others.
Conduct daily maintenance and service on construction equipment, including record‑keeping of maintenance and service performed.
Perform physical construction tasks such as excavating trenches, pipe laying, backfilling, compacting soil to grade specifications using manual and pneumatic tools, and conducting water and wastewater main testing.
Ensure safe working conditions, including trench safety and bracing.
Construct and maintain erosion control devices as required.
Load, unload, identify, and distribute utility materials according to project plans and specifications.
Signal additional equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Four (4) years of verifiable experience operating heavy equipment such as backhoe, excavator, loader, and skidsteer.
Field experience with digging operations in city and urban areas around existing utilities.
Experience handling and setting a trench box, lifting and placing steel plates, digging in confined spaces, and placing material in and out of a dump truck.
Ability to work well in a crew and participate with other team members.
Valid driver’s license issued by the state where employed; CDL license preferred.
Two (2) years of prior water and wastewater system construction experience preferred.
Working knowledge of general hand tools and power tools.
Must take and pass Federal OSHA and/or State mandated safety training with annual refresher courses as required.
Physical strength and stamina to lift and carry loads up to 50 lbs and push or pull up to 100 lbs in extreme weather conditions.
