Overview
The City of New York’s Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) is seeking a
Health and Safety Coordinator
to support agencywide occupational safety, environmental health, and regulatory compliance efforts across all lines of service. This full‑time position is located in New York, NY and reports to the Senior Counsel for Labor Relations & Health and Safety. Responsibilities
Develop, administer, and manage occupational and environmental safety and health programs. Develop and maintain employee safety and health plans, policies, and procedures. Co‑Chair the agency’s Labor Management Health and Safety Committee and serve as liaison with Labor Unions and the New York State Public Employees Safety and Health Act (PESH). Provide indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments, asbestos and lead investigations, ergonomic surveys, and other environmental services to DCAS employees. Develop and conduct environmental, health, and safety training programs to achieve and maintain compliance with applicable regulations and emerging needs. Serve as the DCAS Respiratory Protection Program Administrator, Workplace Violence Coordinator, and other agency safety program leads as needed. Respond to occupational incidents, worksite emergencies, and provide corrective action reports as required. Perform job hazard analysis, review operational procedures, and implement control measures during incidents to ensure employee safety. Assume Citywide Health and Safety Program Member responsibilities and provide technical guidance to lines of service. Minimum Qualifications
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in a physical, biological, or environmental science or in public health (Assignment Level I). For Assignment Level II and above: a doctorate degree with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental, or social science and at least one year of full‑time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative, or research capacity; or a master’s degree with at least three years of responsible full‑time research experience; or equivalent education and experience that satisfies the experience requirements above. Preferred Skills
Certification as a Safety Professional or similar safety officer license. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to draft technical reports. Knowledge of federal, state, and city safety regulations, including OSHA Standards and Public Employee Safety and Health Plans. Proficiency with industrial hygiene equipment (photoionization detection, multi‑gas meter, sound and light meter). Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities and the capacity to handle difficult situations. Ability to interpret, summarize, and report sampling data. Strong computer skills, including experience with the Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to wear respiratory protection and lift 30 pounds. Salary Range
