Job Summary: Responsible for ensuring that the department has everything it needs to operate efficiently and effectively. Ensures that instruments and supplies are readily available for processing through purchasing and coordinating with the vendor for loaners and trials. Oversees instrument repairs, instrument transfers between the organization's multiple facilities, and instrument tracking system.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Two years' experience in Sterile Processing required.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration:

Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or other sterile processing certification required.

Certification as a Surgical Instrument Specialist required within one year of hire.

Essential Functions:

Coordinates the repair of instruments with appropriate vendor and maintains a log for tracking items set off-site.

Coordinates the maintenance of instrument sets by assessing surgical case schedule and deducing which instruments can be removed from circulation.

Coordinates the procurement of and return of loaner, vendor, and/or trial instrument sets.

Orders new and replacement supplies and instruments based on inventory, par levels, iShare requests, and at the direction of the Manager of Sterile Processing while striving to adhere to departmental budgets.

Assists with resolving product and/or instrument recalls as quickly as possible to promote patient care.

Maintains the department's instrument tracking system by entering new instruments into system and building count sheets.

Collaborates with SPD Liaisons to ensure sets are available and complete.

Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument availability with SPD Supervisors, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators.

Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD.

Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as needed.

Assists with Sterile Processing staffing as needed.

Skills/Qualifications:

Proficient communication skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel

Ability to order instruments via PeopleSoft

Work Environment:

Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

Moderate noise level.

Possible exposure to cleaning agents.
