Position Summary The HVAC Mechanic will service, and repair Packaged Rooftop Air Conditioning, chilled water and fan coil systems, refrigeration, heating units and other related small appliances in accordance with requirements and standards. Possesses the ability to replace compressors and other associated components of air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating units. Cuts, threads and solders pipe, associated fittings and pipe connected components. Cuts, bends, and shapes sheet metal. Replaces filters, cleans, adjusts and repairs equipment. Records refrigeration use/loss data when servicing equipment and enters it into a permanent log. Initiates requisitions for repair and replacement parts on equipment under his control.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Maintain and repair Packaged Rooftop Air Conditioning, perform visual inspections, filter changes, lubrication, and other service and maintenance regimen to keep the HVAC equipment performing efficiently.
Maintain and repair chilled water & hot water fan coil systems and associated valves and apparatus.
Disassemble and assemble component parts to air conditioning, refrigeration, heating units and other related small appliances.
Check operating condition, and maintain all sub-components (HVAC, room AC, heating units, ice machines and water coolers etc.) associated with air conditioning, refrigeration, heating units and other related small appliances.
Check heating and refrigerant piping for leaks and signs of deterioration, and take appropriate measures to correct, repair, and extend the life of piping and connected equipment.
Use meters and test instruments to detect and repair problems on air conditioning, refrigeration, heating units and other related small appliances and initiate action to correct and repair the problems.
Evaluate/modify ventilation systems to improve cooling/heating efficiency and comfort.
Operate, regulate, maintain, and control through Operator Interface, rooftop air handling and other HVAC systems to provide efficient use of cooling resources with energy management considered to reduce energy consumption and billing.
Identify, requisition repair and replacement parts for air conditioning, refrigeration, heating units and other related small appliances under his control, or equipment on sub-systems directly related to these systems.
Replace and repair thermostats and electrical circuits associated with heating and cooling systems.
Be knowledgeable of computerized building management systems and perform standard duties as systems operator and can detect trouble in these systems with reasonable success at least 80% of the time.
Other duties may include (but are not limited to) minor repair to plumbing, painting, electrical and various types of structural systems.
Maintain work orders appropriately in the PM and Work Order System program.
Other related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Three (3) years of prior work experience as an HVAC Technician
EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery certification
Preferred:
Associates degree in HVAC
Five (5) years of prior work experience as an HVAC Technician
