Volunteer Position: Music Program Associate (Instruction & Operations)
Noteworthy Philadelphia is seeking a
Music Program Associate (Instruction & Operations) —an ideal role for an
early-career music educator, vocal coach, or ensemble leader
looking to develop hands‑on experience in
rehearsal leadership, vocal training, and performance preparation.
This position offers professional development, mentorship, and leadership growth while playing a key role in shaping the ensemble’s musical direction.
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys
structured instruction, leading rehearsals, and preparing vocalists for performances.
You will work closely with singers to
develop vocal technique, ensure rehearsal efficiency, and help refine musical execution for live and recorded performances.
About the Role The
Music Program Associate (Instruction & Operations)
collaborates with the Executive Director and fellow Music Program Associate to
co‑lead rehearsals, provide vocal training, and keep the ensemble prepared for performances.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys
teaching singers, reinforcing musical skills, and overseeing rehearsal efficiency.
This is a
shared leadership role
with the Music Program Associate (Advising & Musicianship), and together, both MPAs ensure the group is prepared for performances, recording projects, and music video production.
Responsibilities
Co‑lead rehearsals
(Sundays, 11 AM–1 PM in South Philadelphia) to ensure an efficient and structured learning environment.
Develop and implement vocal training techniques , incorporating music theory, breath control, and vocal health into rehearsal sessions.
Lead warm‑ups and vocal exercises
to improve blend, diction, range, and overall vocal technique.
Manage rehearsal schedules
and keep members on track with learning and refining music.
Oversee performance preparation , ensuring consistency in vocal execution, dynamics, and stage presence.
Coordinate logistics for performances , including sound checks, setlists, and rehearsal pacing.
Review audio and video drafts
to ensure strong musical and production quality.
Work alongside leadership and creative team members , including the Executive Director, fellow Music Program Associate, Videographer, and Visual Performance Director, to ensure cohesive artistic execution.
Who You Are We’re looking for someone who:
Has a strong background in music education, ensemble leadership, or vocal instruction.
Enjoys leading structured rehearsals
and guiding singers through training and performance prep.
Is confident in music theory and vocal technique , and can teach these skills in a rehearsal setting.
Thrives in organizing and maintaining rehearsal flow , ensuring an efficient and productive environment.
Is local to the Greater Philadelphia area and available for Sunday rehearsals and performances.
Preferred Experience
Background in
music direction, vocal coaching, or choral leadership.
Experience performing in
a cappella, choral groups, or other live vocal settings.
Familiarity with
ensemble rehearsal techniques and vocal pedagogy.
Passion for
helping singers develop their skills and confidence.
Leadership & Growth As part of the
executive board , the Music Program Associate (Instruction & Operations) will have the opportunity to
develop leadership skills, contribute to high‑level artistic decisions, and grow into a director‑level position over time.
We are a
young adult performing arts group
that values
creativity, leadership development, and collaboration.
This role is ideal for someone looking to
gain experience in artistic leadership
while working alongside experienced professionals in performance, production, and creative direction.
Volunteer Position:
This is an unpaid role, but you will hold a
key leadership position
in Noteworthy Philadelphia.
Group Membership Required:
You must pass an audition and join as a singer in the group.
Flexible Attendance:
If there is no need for direct rehearsal leadership in a given week, attendance is not required.
Trial Period There will be a
three‑month trial period
to ensure mutual fit and refine expectations for the role.

talented vocalists in their 20s and 30s , performing across Philadelphia and beyond to create meaningful and memorable musical experiences.
