Pay range:

Base $104,219.00 – $193,106.00 per year. Actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.

Summary The Greater Los Angeles Health Care System (GLAHCS) is recruiting a Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) Staff Psychologist. This position is located in Los Angeles, CA (the main hospital).

Qualifications

Citizenship: Citizen of the United States

Education: The individual must meet at least one of the following:

Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program accredited by the APA (PCSAS) or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed.

The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment.

Have a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and also complete a re‑specialization program (including approved internship) meeting both conditions:

The re‑specialization program must be completed in an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program.

The specialty in which the applicant is retrained must be consistent with the assignment.

Have a doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally accredited institution with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature.

Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program accredited by APA or CPA that was consistent with the assignment.

New VHA psychology internship programs applying for APA accreditation are acceptable if sanctioned by VHA Central Office Program Director and Office of Academic Affiliations at time of internship.

VHA facilities that offered full‑time one‑year pre‑doctoral internships prior to PL 96‑151 (pre‑1979) are acceptable.

Applicants who completed an internship not accredited by APA or CPA may be considered eligible only if currently board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area consistent with the assignment.

Licensure: Applicants must hold a full, current, unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.

Exception: Non‑licensed applicants who meet eligibility may receive a temporary appointment as a "graduate psychologist" at GS‑11 or GS‑12 under 38 U.S.C. § 7405 [(c)(2)(B)] for up to two years, pending licensure.

Board Certification: Persons hired must be board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area consistent with the assignment, with current certification and continuing education compliance.

Grandfathering Provision: All persons employed as a psychologist on the effective date of this standard are considered to have met all qualification requirements.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

GS‑11: No additional requirements beyond the basic.

GS‑12: One year of creditable experience as a professional psychologist (GS‑11 level) and must demonstrate Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities in professional psychological treatments, design/implement treatment strategies, incorporate new procedures, and conduct research activities.

GS‑13: At least two years of professional psychologist experience with at least one year at GS‑12 level and must demonstrate expanded Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, including professional advice, consultation, and knowledge of clinical research literature.

The full performance level of this position is 13. The actual grade selected will range from GS‑11 to GS‑13.

Physical Requirements: The Staff Psychologist must be independently mobile throughout the medical center, read and document in the EHR, and communicate effectively in English.

Duties

Providing a full range of psychological and behavioral health services within the Primary Care setting.

Applying experience and training to involvement in clinical and didactic training and supervision in specific areas of psychology.

Attending and participating in administrative and informational meetings held by the Service Line and facility director.

Supervising students at all levels from within Psychology and other disciplines (if licensed).

Providing collaborative mental health assessments and treatments with emphasis on translational integration within the primary care team(s).

Assessing and treating mental disorders including PTSD, anxiety‑related, mood‑related, substance use disorders, and other conditions in person and/or via clinical video telehealth.

Assessing and treating behavioral health problems such as tobacco use, sleep problems, weight management, chronic illness, medication adherence, and adjustment issues or life stressors.

Providing patients with elements of care coordination, case management, and ancillary functions as assigned.

Complying with national and local VA performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients.

Complying with all Electronic Health Record (EHR) documentation procedures, including timeliness standards and proper patient check–out procedures.

Work Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM‑4:30 PM. Compressed/Flexible schedule may be authorized at supervisory discretion.

Telework: May be authorized at supervisory discretion.

Virtual: This is not a virtual position.

EDRP Authorized: Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply for the incentive.
