Phlebotomist Senior – RWJBarnabas Health – Req #: 0000228798 – Full‐Time Night Shift – $21.30‑$25.41/hr – 95 Old Short Hills Rd, West Orange, NJ.
Job Overview Perform phlebotomy on patients of all ages, process laboratory specimens, and perform related computer tasks.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Minimum of 6 months work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced laboratory or hospital setting
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Scheduling Requirements
Full time, night shift
Must work holiday and weekend rotations, as defined by section leadership
Essential Functions
Perform phlebotomy under the direction of a department Supervisor or designee
Perform venipuncture, heel sticks, finger sticks, and bleeding times according to standard operating procedures and deliver specimens to the appropriate department
Respond promptly to STAT and timed test requests and perform routine rounds on time
Enter test requests and receive specimens in LIS computer system
Cover Central Processing area
Greet and register laboratory outpatients, instruct them on specimen collection and storage, and ensure complete and correct documentation for Medicare and Medicaid patients, as required by federal law and corporate compliance policies
Obtain and verify information prior to processing test orders
Perform point‑of‑care testing according to standard operating procedures
Provide proper documentation of patient identification and test results
Perform quality control as per policy
Read, familiarize with, participate in periodic education and training regarding, and comply with, RWJBH Corporate Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, and other corporate compliance policies
Adhere to Standard Precaution, Hazard and Safety guidelines
Participate in Health Fair screenings as needed
Assist in orientation and training of new employees and participate in affiliated teaching programs of the hospital as assigned
Assume the duty of overseeing daily operations of Phlebotomy in the absence of the Phlebotomy Supervisor
Assist the Phlebotomy Supervisor to oversee the daily operation of the Phlebotomy department
Perform staff training on new equipment and/or procedures under the direction of the Phlebotomy Supervisor
Maintain continued education
Adhere to departmental and Laboratory policies and procedures
Perform other duties as assigned
