Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Molecular Technologist. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing complex clinical laboratory tests on specimens for diagnostic purposes under minimal supervision.

Job Responsibilities

Perform routine microbiological and immunological testing of specimens, check specimen accuracy and container suitability, subculture to specific media for optimal microbial recovery, identify presence of microbes by culture, antibody or other means, and perform antibiotic susceptibilities if applicable.

Accurately interpret and record test results, differentiate normal from abnormal results, report results promptly via computer or telephone, and consult reference sources and superiors when necessary.

Perform quality control measures to ensure result accuracy.

Perform laboratory tests and procedures requiring technical skill and independent judgment with minimal supervision, documenting results for compliance with medical center and regulatory requirements; apply technical judgment in problem evaluation and develop reasonable, workable alternatives for patient benefit.

Call critical values to nursing units immediately upon completion and record the name and time of the person contacted.

Demonstrate sufficient knowledge of scientific principles and alternative methodologies, and bring unresolved problems to supervisors for investigation and solution discussion.

Perform additional procedures as required to ensure testing quality and document these activities; conduct periodic quality control analysis, instrument function checks, and preventive maintenance per approved policy.

Correlate final patient results with patient history (previous results) to determine fit and resolve illogical results.

Follow approved guidelines for problem‑solving, devising appropriate actions when results or instrument parameters are inconsistent or invalid, and conduct additional testing as needed.

Maintain sufficient supplies and up‑to‑date logs to ensure continuous workstation integrity and specimen processing.

Document preventive maintenance procedures and instrument function checks at each workstation, including scheduling and unscheduled maintenance, and record all required information in the instrument problem log.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the New York State Department of Education, or a Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or physical sciences from an accredited college or university.

One year of experience in a clinical laboratory (completion of an internship program at a qualified institution is acceptable).

License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist issued by the State of New York under the Special Provision of the Regulations of the Commissioner in accordance with the Clinical Laboratory Technology Practice Act.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Licenses

CliniclLabTechnolgst‑NYS Permit, Clinical Lab Technologist‑NYS

Preferred Qualifications

Proficient computer skills.

ASCP registry preferred.

Multitasking abilities and flexibility are a plus.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Salary range: $87,210.40 – $109,262.40 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The range does not include bonuses, differential pay, or other compensation.
