Position Overview
An Operations Specialist in Animal Care will ensure proper animal care and husbandry for all companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC). They are the primary resource regarding animal care and maintenance, supporting PCC's budgeted sales and shrink goals, and ensuring merchandising and inventory strategies are executed across the center with a focus on companion animals and aquatic life. They work closely with the sales team to meet guest and pet needs while exemplifying a passion for animal welfare and being a positive partner on the Pet Care Center team. Position Responsibilities
Have a strong interest in animal welfare and possess a high level of knowledge of companion animal and aquatic care. Ensure all companion animals and aquatic life in the PCC receive appropriate care, including completing maintenance, incident reports, and hourly health checks. Process register transactions to create a great experience for each guest. Be proficient within our selling model and support guest interactions as needed. Ensure merchandise is stocked, priced, and displayed for a great presentation. Complete and apply training programs to maintain high expertise and educate other PCC partners in animal care and maintenance. Promote a positive culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration. Adhere to operational guidelines, policies, and procedures. Evaluate guest inquiries and refer to the Leader on Duty as needed. Act as primary resource for guests and partners regarding animal education and care. Order companion animals, aquatic life, supplies, and merchandise in partnership with sales to maximize sales, margin, and inventory. Analyze inventory data and recommend improvements. Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain professional image of animal habitats and aquatic areas (sweeping/mopping, dusting, cleaning tanks, etc.). Ensure proper handling and documentation of relinquished and adoption animals. Verify maintenance tasks complete per Maintenance Schedules. Participate in animal and aquatic physical inventory counts. Adhere to and promote security and loss prevention procedures. Perform additional duties and projects as required or assigned. Utilize selling behaviors to provide an amazing guest experience. Contribute to a safe environment by maintaining safety protocols. Be part of a collaborative culture that solves pet health and wellness needs. Engage in career development programs. Basic Qualifications
Minimum one year of experience working with companion animals and aquatic life. Applicants must have a high level of knowledge of these animals, an aptitude for sales techniques, professional appearance, and genuine interest in animal care. Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills are necessary. Certification
Completion and maintenance of the Petco Animal Care Certification program is required. Education/Skills
High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Proficiency in basic mathematics, accounting relationships, and exceptional communication skills. Supervisory Responsibility
Ensure the Pet Care Center opens and/or closes per established policies and procedures for SFS operations. Adhere to and promote safety procedures for partners, guests, and pets. Work Environment
Job duties are conducted indoors with occasional guest carryouts and veterinary visits. Responsibilities include bending, kneeling, moving merchandise up to 50 pounds, and standing for long periods. A flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, is required. Equal Opportunity Employer
