Job Type: Part‑time.

Position Purpose Provides patient‑focused customer service. Performs outpatient and/or inpatient registration and insurance verification functions; collects patient financial liability payments and ensures patients meet financial requirements including Medicare medical necessity, payer pre‑certifications and referrals. Provides general information to hospital users, patients, families and physician offices.

Essential Functions

Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the Trinity Health mission, values, vision, actions and promise in behaviors, practices and decisions.

Researches, collects and analyzes information; identifies opportunities, develops solutions and leads through resolution.

Collaborates on performance improvement activities as indicated by program efficiency and patient experience outcomes.

Responsible for distribution of analytical reports.

Utilizes multiple system applications to perform analysis, create reports and develop educational materials.

Applies basic knowledge of Trinity Health policies, practices and processes to ensure quality, confidentiality and safety are prioritized.

Demonstrates knowledge of departmental processes and procedures and readily acquires new knowledge.

Researches and compiles information to support ad‑hoc operational projects and initiatives.

Synthesizes and analyzes data and provides detailed summaries including graphical data presentations illustrating trends and recommending practical options or solutions while considering impact on business strategy and supporting leadership decision making.

Leverages program and operational data and measurements to define and demonstrate progress, ROI and impacts.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance Program & Code of Conduct and other policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure adherence with honest, ethical and professional behavior and safe work practices.

Functional Role Levels

PAR I

– Entry‑level position. Minimum one (1) year customer service experience; Patient Access experience preferred.

PAR II

– Performs PAR I role and is cross‑trained with activities in Pre‑Service, Emergency Department and/or Bed Desk. Minimum of two (2) years hospital registration or insurance verification experience; knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic coding and procedural coding required; ability to explain insurance benefits.

Patient Access Account Specialist

– Additional minimum two plus (2+) years hospital registration or insurance verification experience. Uses specialized knowledge to support key areas of the organization, provides data, research, and analysis to support leadership, serves as peer influencer, resolves items, ensures claims are billed accurately, processes payments timely.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA certification required within one (1) year of hire.

Additional Qualifications (Nice to Have)

Medical terminology required and knowledge of diagnostic & procedural coding.

Insurance verification with ability to explain benefits and secure necessary authorizations.
