Overview
Responsible for the protection of life and property and enforcement of laws and ordinances. The position requires considerable knowledge of modern principles and practices of police work including: knowledge of first‑aid methods, ability to act reasonably without direct supervision, ability to observe situations analytically and objectively, ability to report and record situations clearly and completely, ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and a demographically diverse public. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years of age
High School Diploma or GED
Must meet all Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) requirements.
Must meet all Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) requirements specified in the online assessment.
Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Florida Driver's License prior to employment.
Must present proof of automobile insurance and be free from “at fault” accidents or convictions for violation(s) of traffic law to include adjudication withheld for the past twelve (12) months. A good driving record will include no Driver’s License suspensions in the past one (1) year.
Able to perform the essential functions of the job for which applying with or without reasonable accommodation.
Internal Candidates - Achieved satisfactory evaluations and favorably completed at least one year of employment unless position is designated by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office as a critical need position at the time of application.
Additional Requirements
PBSO Field Training Program (FTO)
New Appointment Training: A 16‑Week Training course, involving (4) 10‑hour workdays. Training includes a combination of High Liability and Classroom curriculum. The training also includes some afternoon and night shift portions.
Field Training for 13 weeks. This training schedule is flexible and will consist of day and night shifts.
Division & Work Schedule
VARIOUS LOCATIONS
Shift work, which may include varying hours, evening, nights, holidays and weekends.
Salary and Benefits Starting Salary: $74,712 (Pay Grade 290, Step 1)
Candidates with 3 or more years of Certified Law Enforcement experience: $81,600 (Pay Grade 290, Step 3)

Notes
Sworn members who are presently assigned to a specialty unit are eligible to apply for other opportunities upon the successful completion of one year of service at their present assignment. Sworn members not assigned to a specialty unit are eligible to apply for other opportunities upon successful completion of their probationary period.
