Lead Teacher Trainer I Winter at Chess Wizards, Inc
Location: Portland, OR 97219
We’re looking for a Lead Teacher Trainer to align our instructors’ performance with our customers’ expectations and to assist in training and coaching other instructors. This role offers a unique opportunity to teach chess, guide students, and serve as a stepping stone toward future management opportunities.

Travel Compensation: Mileage reimbursement for trips over 15 miles one way (30 miles roundtrip)
Responsibilities
Lead and facilitate interactive chess classes for 10–15 elementary students, keeping them engaged and managing behavior
Maintain a strong grasp of chess fundamentals, explaining piece movement, basic strategy, and age‑appropriate tactics
Assist the local Area Manager with coaching, customer conversations, and quality control visits
Support the training, coaching, and performance evaluation of other instructors
Help troubleshoot and resolve program challenges
Complete class evaluation reports and discuss them with the supervisor
Communicate daily with the supervisor and speak regularly with school administration and parents to gather feedback and assist with customer service and marketing
Arrive 15 minutes prior to class start to set up, and stay until all students are safely dismissed
Qualifications
Minimum 2–3 years of experience working with groups of children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, etc.)
Reliable transportation and the ability to reach most or all assigned classes in the metropolitan area
Strong time‑management skills and ability to arrive 15 minutes early and stay until dismissal
Strong grasp of chess fundamentals and ability to communicate them to young learners
Experience or comfort leading the first scheduling choice for day camp opportunities during summer and winter breaks
Strong communication and customer‑service skills
Availability during after‑school hours at least 4 days a week (preferably 5)
Ability to travel up to 30 miles one way for class locations as assigned by the manager
Prior experience with coaching or training other instructors is a plus
Must be legally able to work in the United States and meet all eligibility requirements for employment
