Hours: 36 hours per week, Night shift (7 pm–7 am) with every other weekend.

Job Description Summary Specializes in the promotion of optimum cardiopulmonary function and health. Applies scientific principles to prevent, identify, and treat acute or chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system, ensuring best patient outcomes. Authorized to access the unit medication rooms or bedside medication drawers to retrieve medications they are authorized to administer.

Essential Functions

Applies knowledge of scientific principles underlying cardiopulmonary physiology and pathophysiology, biomedical engineering, and technology.

Offers preventative care and assesses, educates and treats patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies.

Practices Respiratory Care under medical direction across the healthcare continuum, developing and implementing effective care plans, patient‑driven protocols, disease‑based clinical pathways, and disease‑management programs according to evidence‑based clinical practice guidelines.

Provides Respiratory Care using a family‑centered approach.

Assesses individualized patient cardiopulmonary needs and communicates them to the care team.

Participates in interdisciplinary care, data collection or auditing, quality improvement, and represents staff at relevant meetings, reporting information and updates back to staff.

Education Requirement Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree from a CoARC‑accredited Respiratory Care program.

Licensure Requirement

Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care.

Current Ohio license to practice respiratory care.

Certifications

AHA BLS (required).

Current NRP certification (required).

Additional certifications may be required after hire.

Critical thinking and patient or environment assessment skills.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills in interactions with patients, parents, and hospital staff.

Physical Requirements Occasionally:

Bend/twist; biohazard waste; chemicals/medications; flexing/extending of neck; lifting/carrying 21–40 lbs, 41–60 lbs, 61–100 lbs; machinery; pushing/pulling 0–25 lbs, 26–40 lbs, 41–60 lbs, 61–100 lbs; reaching above shoulder; squat/kneel.

Frequently:

Blood and/or bodily fluids; climb stairs/ladder; communicable diseases and/or pathogens; computer skills; fumes/gases/vapors; hand use—grasping, gripping, turning; lifting/carrying 0–10 lbs, 11–20 lbs; patient equipment; repetitive hand/arm use; sitting; standing; walking.
