Job Summary As a sworn Peace Officer, this position creates and maintains a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and guests, and protects campus property. The role performs all duties expected of a sworn police officer, including public safety enforcement, security, and campus services. This is a position of trust, reporting to a Division Sergeant or Lieutenant, and is subject to thorough background checks and other pre‑employment requirements.

Responsibilities

Respond (by vehicle or on foot) to reported incidents and emergencies; conduct preliminary and follow‑up investigations of crimes, traffic offenses, parking violations, and policy infractions; intervene, interview individuals, or conduct surveillance to determine causes of accidents or disturbances; prepare reports, affidavits, and evidence for legal prosecution or referral; provide victim and witness assistance; pursue and secure criminal offenders; attend and testify in court, grand jury, and college proceedings.

Provide community‑oriented police services by working with employees, students, and visitors to address safety issues, crime prevention, and campus community problems; render first aid to injured or sick persons; coordinate emergency rescue units; evacuate or restrict access from potentially dangerous locations.

Physically control violent persons when required, exercising good judgment, discretion, and self‑control in the discharge of duties. Maintain confidentiality of all information obtained during employment.

Direct traffic on campus property or roadways, using vests and flashlights; set up barricades and traffic cones to form directional lanes; move disabled vehicles from accidents when necessary.

Work under general supervision, frequently in hazardous conditions, inclement weather, and varying lighting; provide mutual aid to other agencies when required.

Supervisors monitor activities personally or via camera recordings, radio; review reports; inspect uniforms, equipment, and vehicles; evaluate performance.

Schedule may include day, evening, or morning shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime. Sudden changes to assignments, longer shifts, or duties typical of a Sergeant or other senior role may be required.

Perform other duties as assigned by division or unit.

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or GED.

Twenty‑one years of age or older.

GAPOST‑certified peace officer in good standing. Current GAPOST professional profile must be submitted.

Applicants certified by a non‑GAPOST law enforcement agency may be considered with official certification and training records.

All certified applicants must submit a current official certification profile and be in good standing, unblemished by prior termination, suspension, probation, or unpaid fees.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate Degree.

Bachelor’s Degree.

Current employment or employment in the last 12 months as a peace officer with a GAPOST‑recognized agency.

Knowledge of police methods, practices, and procedures and ability to apply them in specific situations.

Knowledge of terminology and lawful applications of law enforcement procedures, traffic law, criminal law, and criminal procedural law.

Proposed Salary $45,300 - $50,900

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Communicate effectively by phone, police radio, or in person.

Work cooperatively with employees of other departments and agencies.

Organize, prioritize, and complete assigned work under pressure.

Work prescribed division, unit, or program shift hours with rotating off‑days, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Operate basic computer programs (Word, Excel, Internet) and police record systems.

Understand federal, state, city criminal, traffic, procedural laws, ordinances, and court decisions.

Use firearms, less lethal weapons, and police vehicles safely.

Perform CPR, AED, stop‑the‑bleed, and naloxone/Narcan procedures.

Maintain confidentiality and integrity in all duties.
