Instructor, Astronomy – Adjunct Pool Requisition
Join Houston Community College (HCC) to teach astronomy and related disciplines as part of our Adjunct Pool. The role supports the college curriculum, offers academic advising, and contributes to professional development and community service.
Key Information Location: Houston, Texas – System Wide. Type: Adjunct. Start Date: 14 August 2025. Post date: 14 August 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and teach courses and laboratories, creating syllabi per institutional guidelines and maintaining LMS shells.
Employ diverse instructional methods, evaluate student progress, and keep accurate records.
Participate in academic advising, offering guidance via office hours and digital communication.
Engage in professional development: set annual growth objectives, stay current with discipline developments, learn supportive technologies, and complete department evaluation.
Contribute to institutional and community service: committee participation is encouraged, and policies of HCCS are followed.
Qualifications
Master’s degree (or higher) in Astronomy, Aerospace Engineering, Astrophysics, Space Studies, Applied Physics, Physics, Planetary Science or related field, with 18 graduate hours.
Optional: extensive astronomy experience may substitute the graduate hour requirement.
1 year college‑level teaching experience preferred.
Ability to teach day/evening classes at multiple sites and adapt to varied student backgrounds.
Proficiency in computer usage and software tools.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills.
Commitment to inclusion, sensitivity to diverse students, and ability to inspire a learning‑centered environment.
