Lead Solar Automation Specialist, Amazon Leo
Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. We are looking for a talented Technician Lead to help full‑scale production of the Leo satellites. Success depends on the quality, reliability, cost, manufacturability, throughput, and security of the products you deliver. Key job responsibilities
- Maintain configuration control and monitor the health of automated equipment
- Troubleshoot and diagnose failures of automated equipment
- Gather data and communicate during equipment downtime
- Perform preventative maintenance activities on equipment
- Drive machine operation process improvements and maintain floor stock inventory
- Follow work instructions and safety procedures
- Independently execute and prioritize work to meet company deliverables
- Execute test procedures for component- and system-level testing and maintenance
- Champion safety requirements in all designated zones and work locations
- Ensure lab equipment is maintained and calibrated
- Receive shipments and coordinate deliveries with recipients (using pallet jacks, kit carts, etc.)
- Contribute to improving SOPs and safety procedures
Additional requirements
- Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed; estimated shift times are Wed‑Sat, 4×10 6:00 AM–4:30 PM
- Stand for long periods of time, climb up and down ladders, bend, grasp, sit, pull, push, stoop, and stretch as required
- Able to lift up to 25 lb unassisted
Basic qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical or electrical hardware assembly, test, and/or installation
- 2+ years of operating and/or maintaining high-volume manufacturing equipment
- 2+ years using hand tools and/or precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, multimeters, torque wrenches, feeler gauges, gauge blocks)
- Experience in owning the performance and health of automated processes
- Experience reading, interpreting, and working from engineering documentation and/or drawings
- Ability to gather and analyze data to support root‑cause diagnosis
Preferred qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in mechanical or electrical hardware assembly, test, and/or installation
- 4+ years of operating and/or maintaining high-volume manufacturing equipment
- 4+ years using hand tools and/or precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, multimeters, torque wrenches, feeler gauges, gauge blocks)
- Experience in the aerospace, automotive, medical device, aviation, military, or other high-reliability operating environment
- Experience in a fast‑paced production environment
- Experience working with FOD, ESD‑sensitive hardware, and cleanroom requirements
- Experience working with electro‑mechanical assembly

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $70,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $117,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors, including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
