The part‑time Phlebotomy Laboratory Assistant (PLA) reports to the Associate Dean of Community Education and will work closely with Continuing Education (CE) staff to ensure successful Phlebotomy students’ course outcomes. The PLA will be responsible for supporting and providing feedback and instruction to students in all didactic and lab sessions.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Establish relationships with Phlebotomy students and instructors that support and encourage a positive learning experience in all phlebotomy courses.
- Observe and provide feedback on all student skills in the lab sessions and instruction as needed.
- Utilize and care for equipment, including returning it to the storage area at the end of each lab session.
- Observe and follow universal precautions.
- Follow the American Society of Phlebotomy Technician guidelines.
- Ensure students receive education as described by National Education Standards and scope of practice.
- Serve as substitute instructor as needed.
- Follow all Massasoit Community College policies and procedures.
- Attend staff meetings and training as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Associate’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Allied Health; with two (2) years’ experience and/or training involving career counseling, academic advising, and peer mentoring; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
National or Massachusetts State certification as a Phlebotomy Technician.
Minimum of 1‑year experience as a Phlebotomy course instructor or trainer.
Be capable, through academic preparation, training, and experience, of teaching topics assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- National certification as a Phlebotomy Instructor
- Experience in a higher education or workforce development environment with an understanding of barriers to higher education and/or training faced by some students
- Experience with grant‑funded or similar short‑term workforce development programs, including recruitment, assessment, support, and data collection
- Experience collecting, tracking and updating data in Excel
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent organizational and planning skills

Additional Information
Semester: Spring 2026, course begins March 2026
Position status: Part‑time, non‑benefited Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) union position of Community/Outreach Counselor.

Hours: Up to 18 hours/week (not to exceed 936 hours annually), Monday–Friday and with Saturdays as needed.
Salary: $36.55 per hour.
Worksite: Canton or Middleborough Campuses as assigned and may include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
