Overview

Administrative Assistant – 9‑month half‑time, permanent, 50% salary ($2,021–$2,714/month). This position supports the Ray Wolpow Institute for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Crimes Against Humanity at Western Washington University.

About the Institute

The Ray Wolpow Institute advances knowledge of the Holocaust, genocide, and mass violations of human rights. It offers two academic minors—Holocaust & Genocide Studies and Human Rights— and develops educational and scholarly programming for the university and the community.

Responsibilities

Provide administrative, fiscal, program, event, and communication support to facilitate daily operations. Coordinate internal and external communications, manage event logistics, prepare correspondence, maintain records, and assist with budget and financial tracking. Work independently, multitask, and meet deadlines while serving a diverse staff, student, and faculty community.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Three years of progressively responsible office experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience producing tables, charts, graphs, and professional correspondence
  • Ability to effectively serve a diverse staff, student, and faculty community

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Familiarity with academic settings and ability to work across centers, institutes, departments, and the campus community
  • Prior successful experience planning and staging events
  • Knowledge of basic WWU systems; experience with e‑sign forms, reservation procedures, etc.
  • Experience maintaining a website (e.g., Drupal or other platform) and social media
  • Experience with Banner, Web4U, CANVAS, InDesign, or similar
