Description
This position will provide administrative, communications, and operational support to the Office of Equity and Civil Rights (ECR). The role requires working with confidential and highly sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality in compliance with university policies, procedures, and federal and state laws and regulations.

UMBC’s Office of Equity and Civil Rights (ECR) is responsible for promoting and coordinating the University’s core values of inclusive excellence and equity, and for managing UMBC’s efforts related to Title IX and other civil rights issues, including discrimination, harassment, hate, and bias.
Position Overview
This role provides administrative, communications, and operational support to the Office of Equity and Civil Rights (ECR). It requires handling confidential and highly sensitive information with strict confidentiality in compliance with university policies, procedures, and federal and state laws and regulations.

Responsibilities
- Managing calendars
- Scheduling, arranging, and making arrangements for meetings
- Composing, reviewing, and tracking correspondence
- Providing proofreading and editing assistance
- Responding to routine inquiries regarding the work of Office of Equity and Civil Rights
- Receiving and screening telephone calls, voicemails, emails, and visitors
- Making all necessary travel arrangements and independently performing administrative follow‑up and recordkeeping
- Managing, preparing paperwork, and maintaining records
- May be responsible for performing duties in payroll and procurement
- Assisting with onboarding of new Office of Equity and Civil Rights employees by helping them complete paperwork, secure IT equipment and a campus ID, obtain training on university systems, and connect with HR and parking staff as needed
- Helping Office of Equity and Civil Rights employees offboard to ensure they return their IT equipment (e.g., laptops, monitors, keyboards, mouse, ID)
- Performing other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three (3) years experience providing administrative support
- Must have the ability to multi‑task and have a keen attention to detail
- Must act with discretion and ensure confidentiality of information
- Strong writing, problem‑solving, and interpersonal communication skills required
- Demonstrated ability to work toward university goals and interests to include a demonstrated interest in fostering inclusive excellence
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year‑for‑year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of discrimination, harassment, and/or hate/bias‑related work
- Knowledge of how to create and update website content and fulfill digital accessibility requirements
