Position at YMCA of the Pines
A seasonal director is responsible for overseeing, leading, planning, and implementing the Arts department, supervising up to ten Art Specialists and teaching art classes to campers.
Responsibilities
- Supervise all Art Specialists.
- Provide instruction, supervision, and safety for all campers in the program area and cabins.
- Observe Art Specialists’ classes and provide constructive feedback.
- Ensure art lesson plans are submitted on time.
- Approve all lesson plans and curriculum for arts activities, confirming they are age‑appropriate and meet standards.
- Submit written performance evaluations of staff twice a summer.
- Ensure adequate supplies and resources are available.
- Assist campers with achieving their goals.
- Assist with the trading post, evening activities, special events, and tractor rides.
- Supervise and participate in all assigned aspects of the campers’ day (check‑in/check‑out, mealtimes, activities, before/after‑hours duties).
- Attend and participate in ad staff and all staff training.
Qualifications
- Must be 20 years of age or older.
- Ability to lead and instruct a group of staff and campers in the Arts program.
- Knowledge of safety, care of equipment, inventory, skill instruction, and progressive age‑appropriate programming.
- Ability to identify age and grade level characteristics of campers.
- Previous camp experience or experience working with groups of children is preferred.
- Training will be provided during Administration Staff Training and All Staff Training.
