Camp Skylark is looking for a seasonal camp director to lead local day camps for elementary school aged children. This position runs from March to August.

Objectives of This Role

  • Operate summer camp with excellence according to Skylark standards in ‘The Compass’
  • Support the Area Director in hiring summer staff
  • Onboard and train summer staff, including creating and leading summer staff orientation
  • Disciple summer staff during the camp season
  • Invest in campers and their families
  • Build and maintain relationships with church partner staff and participate in intentional church partner initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage camp
  • Implement 11 weeks of spiritually deep, actively engaging, fun, developmentally appropriate programming for campers
  • Lead in faithfully working toward camp spiritual goals
  • Engage with parents and campers throughout the summer to ensure a positive experience
  • Lead and supervise 20–40 summer staff
  • Ensure child and staff safety throughout camp
  • Maintain alignment with camp budgets
  • Manage candidates through each stage of the hiring pipeline with excellent communication and administration
  • Spiritually develop and disciple staff
  • Partner with the local church and community: build relationships, coordinate logistics, discuss spiritual goals, recruiting, enrollment, and financial aid
  • Regularly attend Sunday mornings during the operating months for ongoing partnership with the church body and campers alike
  • Develop personally both in spiritual maturity and professional development
  • Maintain project deadlines by meeting goals and objectives within specified timeframes

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Required: Two or more years in Christian camping or youth ministry management/leadership
  • Preferred: Experience in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and management
  • Proactive self‑starter, able to maintain timelines for project completion
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knack for building strong relationships and fostering a healthy culture
  • Ability to manage a team efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to work on‑site at the partner church
