Technical Manager – Electronics Hardware

GE Aerospace is seeking a Technical Manager – Electronics Hardware to lead a team of 8‑10 electronics hardware engineers in the Platform Hardware engineering organization. The role will drive initiatives to improve performance and processes, execute projects, and achieve key functional and business objectives.

Location: Melbourne, FL (relocation package available for eligible candidates)

Employment Type: Full‑time

Senior­ity Level: Mid‑Senior level

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and conduct strategic resource planning, recruit and develop a high‑performing team, and celebrate successes.
  • Manage departmental objectives including engineering planning, budgeting, competency and culture development, and process excellence.
  • Serve as the site focal for the Avionics hardware engineering team based in Melbourne.
  • Create and execute individual development plans and hold the team accountable for continuous development.
  • Set clear performance expectations and use metrics for continuous improvement.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, clear communication, lean practices, and accountability.
  • Develop engineering competency compliant with processes and customer contractual requirements.
  • Allocate qualified talent and manage outsource activities.
  • Support reporting and escalation rhythms with clear communication and ownership of issues.
  • Provide technical expertise for new and existing business, NPI, IR&D, and continuous improvement of processes, tools, and talent.
  • Drive effective startup of new projects, standardization, reporting, and One Team collaboration.
  • Translate highly technical concepts into workable solutions leveraging reuse.
  • Hold project teams accountable to deliver quantifiable results against Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC).
  • Assist project and program leadership in resolving design, validation, integration, verification, safety, certification, and closure issues.
  • Develop influential relationships with assigned customers at all levels.
  • Provide engineering strategies and plans that differentiate GE and make it a great place to work.
  • Maintain high visibility as a key engineering leader in the Avionics business with professionalism, integrity, and commitment.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Aerospace, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a highly technical engineering field, preferably avionics systems.
  • Demonstrated hardware engineering experience leading large‑scale projects or programs.
  • Proficient in identifying stakeholder needs and collaborating with teams to define solutions.
  • Ability to operate in uncertain environments with new technologies or processes.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, able to engage and inspire individuals and broad audiences.
  • Exceptional organization, written, and presentation skills.
  • Self‑starter, persistent, thorough, objective, and accountable.
  • Effective at active listening, building trust, encouraging teams, providing feedback, and embracing new ideas.
  • Lean mindset focused on continuous improvement, visual management, and standard work.
  • Deep knowledge of hardware engineering fundamentals and processes.
  • Experience with industry development and certification standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing or leading effective teams.

Compensation

Base pay range: $150,000 – $200,000 USD. Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of base salary and commission. Position closes on 3/31/25.
