SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and transform the lives of individuals, families, communities, and the systems that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare, and offer the tools people need to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation: $17.95 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (40 hours per week).

Required: Some high‑school education; 1+ years of janitorial experience; experience working in a residential setting is helpful.

Expected Contributions

• Maintain the overall cleanliness of the apartment building, common, and amenity areas.
• Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors; clean restrooms.
• Maintain curb appeal by ensuring trash is removed from the property.
• Take out the trash from common areas and other designated locations.
• Clean and sanitize surfaces in all common areas.
• Deep clean common space, resident kitchens monthly, and bathrooms quarterly.
• Inform the manager of any building safety or maintenance concerns.

• Commit to service excellence with a friendly and positive attitude.
• Maintain a professional appearance and friendly attitude toward residents and community staff while maintaining required boundaries.
• Able to keep up with the physical demands of being on your feet and walking for much of the day.
• Exceptional attention to detail and quality.
• Ability to take direction, work productively on one's own, and adhere to a schedule.
• Complete the cleaning duties checklist daily.

Reports to: Property Manager.

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing before or during employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. Must be able to travel to events and meetings off‑site.
