Cybersecurity Consultant – Transit Infrastructure Projects

Description

Apital is hiring a seasoned and strategic Cybersecurity Consultant to provide expert guidance on cybersecurity integration for CBTC, PTC, and related communications systems within major transit modernization programs. The consultant will serve as a liaison between cybersecurity, engineering, and procurement stakeholders during high-impact transit deployments.

The Cybersecurity Consultant advises transit authorities during procurement, upgrades, or digital transformation of rail infrastructure to ensure cybersecurity is embedded from the start.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate security of control systems in rail expansion or modernization projects.
• Advise on secure procurement of signaling, fare collection, and communication systems.
• Train staff in cybersecurity best practices for operations and maintenance.
• Liaise between transit cybersecurity, engineering, and vendor teams.
• Advise transit authorities on securing wireless communication links between trains and command centers.
• Provide input during procurement and system design phases for CBTC and PTC integration.
• Assess cybersecurity of onboard systems and remote signaling units connected via LTE, 5G, or proprietary wireless mesh.
• Train engineering teams on secure configuration and access control for field-deployed CBTC/PTC devices.

Required Skills/ Knowledge

• Background in transportation infrastructure cybersecurity.
• Expertise in securing industrial networks and embedded systems.
• Strong communication skills and knowledge of public sector procurement.

Desired Skills/ Knowledge

• Certifications: CISSP, CISM, CEH, or PMP with cyber project focus.
